The second leg of the Uefa Champions League Round of 16 tie between Barcelona and Chelsea takes place on Wednesday night and after a 1-1 draw in London Barca are firm favourites to finish the job in front of their own supporters.
The latest outright betting has Chelsea trading around 40/1 (from 33/1) to win this trophy whilst Barcelona can be backed in the region of 9/2, unchanged since the first leg.
For this tie, Chelsea are trading at around 3/1 (from 5/2) to progress via any method and Barca can be backed in the region of 2/9 (from 1/3).
Barca fell behind in the first leg on 62 minutes but Messi equalized on 75. The Spanish side were considered pretty fortunate to get away with a draw after a below par display which saw them register just 2 attempts on target. Barca did edge the corner count 4-3 and they picked up 3 yellow cards to Chelsea’s 2.
Barca haven’t lost a Champions League home game since the 2013 semi final with Bayern and only 2 visiting sides have managed to avoid defeat at Camp Nou since then. In this season’s group stage Barca beat Juve (3-0), Olympiakos (3-1) and Sporting Lisbon (2-0) in their home fixtures.
In the Round of 16 last season Barca staged an incredible comeback to knock out PSG. They lost the first leg 3-0 in Paris and a late onslaught saw them turn it around at Camp Nou, 6-1 on the night and 6-5 on aggregate. In the last 8 Barca couldn’t repeat their heroics, losing the first leg 3-0 at Juventus and the return finished without a goal.
In La Liga Barca are 8 points clear at the top of the log, unbeaten all season and their home record reads 11 wins and 2 draws with 38 goals scored and just 6 conceded.
Willian gave Chelsea the lead in the first leg and he also hit the woodwork twice in what was one of Chelsea’s better displays this season. The stats showed Chelsea had just 27% of the possession but they had the better opportunities. Messi’s equalizer leaves Chelsea needing to find a goal here but they will take some encouragement from having won in Spain earlier in this season’s tournament.
Chelsea won their first group stage match 2-1 at Atletico Madrid who are currently second in the La Liga standings. They put Qarabag away (4-0) in another away fixture but they also crashed 3-0 at Roma.
Last season Chelsea were not involved in this competition whilst in 2016 they bowed out in the Round of 16, losing home and away to PSG by a 2-1 scoreline.
In the Premier League Chelsea have lost each of their last 3 road trips including visits to both Manchester clubs. They are fifth in the standings, 4 points behind fourth placed Liverpool with an away record of 7 wins, 3 draws and 5 defeats with 26 goals scored and 16 conceded.

It’s very hard to argue with Barca’s home record and they rarely fire blanks but I give Chelsea a shout at contributing to the scoring in what should be a very watchable contest.
