Liverpool get their Uefa Champions League Group E campaign underway on Wednesday night when Sevilla visit Anfield.
These 2 sides are the Group E favourites with Spartak Moscow and Maribor the other teams making up the quartet.
Liverpool had to come through the qualifiers to reach the group stage and they managed to clear that hurdle with a bit of daylight, beating Hoffenheim 6-3 on aggregate including a 4-2 win at Anfield. Liverpool were last in the group stage in the 2014/15 season when they failed to make it to the knockout rounds, winning just 1 of 6 matches in a group that contained Real Madrid, Basel and Ludogorets
Their start to the Premier League season has seen 7 points accumulated from 4 outings, the highlight being a 4-0 home win over Arsenal whilst last weekend they had Mane red carded during a 5-0 hiding away at Manchester City.
Sevilla also came through the qualifiers to reach the group stage although they had problems in edging past Turkish side Basaksehir 4-3 on aggregate with a 2-1 win in the first leg in Turkey proving decisive. Sevilla also contested the group stage last season and they made it through alongside Juventus with Lyon and ~Dinamo Zagreb missing out. They bumped into Leicester in the first knockout round and lost 3-2 on aggregate.
In the early stages of La Liga Sevilla have taken maximum points from 2 games, a 1-0 win at Getafe followed by a 3-0 home victory over Eibar.
Head to Head
The teams renew rivalry for the first time since the 2015/16 final of the Europa League when Sevilla came out on top. 3-1
Note, odds quoted are an approximate average and are correct at the time of last update but are subject to change
Sevilla kept 5 clean sheets in the group stage last season and they have started their domestic campaign well. They could have been a touch undercooked when battling their way through their qualifier but I wouldn’t underestimate them here.
The odds in the goals markets suggest a high scorer and I wouldn’t want to put anyone off a goal glut but my idea is that 2-3 in total is worth a go.
Bet: Total goals aggregate 2-3 at 21/20
