dustinjohnsonBrent Graham chats to Jason Dedekind and Wade Pretorius ahead of the US Open taking place at Pebble Beach later this week and the trio look at the tournament from a betting angle

The third major of the year is upon us and punters look to be in for an exciting weekend at Pebble Beach as the top golfers in the world battle what promises to be a very tough course.

Pebble Beach is a par 71 layout and it was last used for the US Open in 2010 when Graeme McDowell won with a level par score. Tiger Woods won this event at -12 in 2000, but he did win by 15 shots that year.

Distance will not be as big a factor as it was at Bethpage Black for the PGA Championship however, history suggests that the longer hitters off the tee will still have a big advantage.

Here are my selections for this week all at Betxchange who offer a Top 3 and Tie promotion for win bets placed before the Tournament. If your pick finishes second or third including ties you get your stake refunded. Full T and C’s on the Betxchange website.

Selections:

2 Units Dustin Johnson win at 9/1.

Johnson loves this course and he is also a past US Open winner and has finished runner-up in both majors this year. If there is a criticism of him, it is that he doesn’t win perhaps as often as he should, but of the big 3 at the top of the betting he is the one I want carrying my stake this week.

1 Unit each way Brandt Snedeker at 60/1.

Snedeker is another proven performer at Pebble Beach, he comes into this in good form having finished in the Top 5 last week. He is a player who tends to thrive in tough conditions and I will be disappointed if he is not somewhere around the business end of proceedings come Sunday.

1 Unit each way Webb Simpson at 50/1.

Simpson was runner-up to Rory Mcilroy last week and his last 5 starts have seen him finish in the Top 30. He has also been in very good form in the majors with 5 of his last 6 starts seeing him finish 20th or better. He hasn’t won at this level for sometime, but his game is clearly heading in the right direction and he has the temperament to grind out pars which is essential in the US Open.

0.5 units each way Kevin Na at 130/1.

Na won his last start and has subsequently taken a couple of weeks off. He is not my favourite player in all honesty as he plays too slowly, but he appears to have conquered some of his demons and has the right game for this course.

1 unit Justin Harding Top SA at 9/2

There are plenty of other betting markets on offer including the Top South African where Jason Dedekind and Wade Pretorius both had opinions in our video preview. I am going to side with Jason on this one and go for the accurate Justin Harding at 11/2 to beat his fellow South Africans home.

72 HOLE MATCH BET

2 Units Dustin Johnson/Rory McIlroy onto Brandt Snedeker/Shane Lowry at 32/10.

Mcilroy does not have such a strong recent US Open record and although he is in cracking form I am willing to take him on this week with DJ who is a proven performer at Pebble Beach. My justification for Snedeker to beat Lowry is based more around the fact that I like Snedeker a lot this week than anything to do with Lowry’s form.
