England are joint second favourites in the outright betting markets to regain the trophy they last won in 2003. They finished as runners up to Wales in the Six Nations earlier this year, winning 3 of their matches with the 1 defeat coming in Cardiff and they were also pegged back by the Scotland in a thrilling draw at Twickenham.

England also lost a warm up match to Wales (13-6) in Cardiff last month but they had beaten the Welsh (33-19) at Twickenham a week earlier and subsequent preparations saw them thrash Ireland (57-15) and Italy (37-0).

In RWC 2015 England became the first outright host nation to fail to make it out of the pool stage as they lost key matches to Wales and Australia.

France have never won the World Cup but they were runners up in 1987, 1999 and 2011. Les Bleus will come up against Argentina in their first pool match, a really crucial game which would leave any loser with a real mountain to climb with England still to face.

France finished fourth in this year's Six Nations with a record of 2 wins and 3 defeats with the victory's arriving at home to Scotland and away to Italy. Warm up results also included home wins over the those nations but they were edged out in a return with the Scots in Edinburgh.

In RWC 2015 France finished as runners up to Ireland in their pool. They lost to the Irish but did beat Italy, Romania and Canada. However their stay in the knockout rounds was short lived as they crashed out to the All Blacks 62-13.

Argentina have yet to reach a RWC final and they have been finding wins hard to come by against tier 1 nations. In the recently concluded Rugby Championship they finished with the wooden spoon after defeats at home to New Zealand (20-16) and South Africa (46-13) either side of a 16-10 loss to the Wallabies in Australia. Los Pumas also lost a subsequent warm up to South Africa in Pretoria (24-18).

In RWC 2015 Argentina came through the pool stage with 3 wins and 1 defeat to the All Blacks. They sprang a surprise with a comfortable win over Ireland in the quarter finals but lost a semi final to the Wallabies and also came out second best in the third place play off with the Springboks.

USA are regular fixtures in RWC finals but they have yet to make it beyond the pool stage. They have landed in a tough grouping here with England, France and Argentina to face before they come up against fellow outsiders Tonga. Their only recent win over a tier 1 nation came against Scotland in Houston in June 2018

In RWC 2015 the USA lost all 4 of their matches, to South Africa, Scotland, Japan and Samoa to finish bottom of their pool and they scored a total of just 50 points across those 4 matches.

Tonga are another side who have yet to reach the knockout rounds and they conceded 92 points to the All Blacks in a recent warm up. IN RWC 2015 they failed to trouble New Zealand and Argentina and they were also turned over by Georgia leaving them with just 1 win which came against Namibia.
