Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 3: LIBRA(8)
Jockey:  Grant V/NIEKERK - Trainer: Mike ROBINSON

The Snaith yard holds a strong hand in this small field and the three-year-old LIBRA has an ideal opportunity to rectify her last mishap when she failed to quicken on her track debut. She was strongly fancied on her handicap debut over seven furlongs that day and should have little issue with this extra furlong, particularly as she could be the likely dictator from her good draw. The daughter of Twice Over has huge scope for improvement and she could be worth following.

Race 5: BLACK CAT BACK(8)
Jockey:  Richard FOURIE - Trainer: Eric SANDS

This is another tricky affair where official ratings shouldn't be taken at face value. The smart BLACK CAT BACK faces his stiffest assignment to date and has much to do at the weights on official ratings but he has few equals over this distance. His excellent statistics over this trip highlights that and the Brett Crawford inmate had a great five furlong warm-up for this event. The likely blistering pace will aid his cause.

TOP BET

Race 6: GOODTIME GAL(4)
Jockey: Richard FOURIE- Trainer: Glen KOTZEN

GOODTIME GAL warmed up well for this event with a fair last sprint victory on her seasonal debut and the booking of top jockey Marcus for the ride is most encouraging. Of course, the bay mare tried hard when going down three parts of a length into 2nd behind CAPTAIN'S FLAME in this event exactly one year ago. The pair meet on similar weight terms and trainer Mike Robinson's only runner on the day can make her fitness count. She is drawn best of all.

Race 8: HEMMINGWAY(5)
Jockey:  Louis BURKE- Trainer: CJ BURGER/R VAN REENEN

HEMMINGWAY is improving quickly and the three-year old bay colt had an eye-catching handicap debut when trying the turn a fortnight ago. He was drawn wide over the seven furlongs but finished strongly for 3rd behind the high class Undercover Agent and the runner-up TRIPPLE EXPLOSION (0.5kg worse off)

VALUE BET FOR TODAY

Race 4: SEQUINED(7)
Jockey: Richard FOURIE- Trainer: Glen KOTZEN

Many top class three-year old fillies head to post for this exciting Progress Plate, the form of which should definitely be worth following. The official merit ratings indicate that SEQUINED has plenty to do in this company but the Marshall inmate had a highly successful KZN winter spell in features and she expectedly cruised to her overdue maiden victory when equipped with blinkers five weeks ago. She still seems well above the handicapper's assessment and the daughter of Oratorio is equally effective when sprinting. She jumps from the best draw and should raise her game in this much higher class.
