Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 2: ELEGANCIA(4)
Jockey:  Lyle HEWITSON - Trainer: Adam MARCUS

ELEGANCIA lacks track experience which is a slight worry but she certainly has the form to be competitive in this small field. The daughter of Toreador stayed on well for 3rd over this distance in a similar line-up recently and more importantly she was only a short head adrift of today's likely favourite SISTER SOOZIE on the Make The Magnet performance. She meets the latter on 2.5kgs better terms and it is worth noting that this combination had a winner at this venue a week ago. All that said, the top weight had a most creditable last performance over this c & d last month and still deserves much respect.

Race 4: AVIEMORE(12)
Jockey:  Morne WINNAAR - Trainer: Joey RAMSDEN

The Ramsden yard showed encouraging signs at this venue a week ago and that could continue in this lowly rated six furlong handicap where the stable is represented by AVIEMORE today. This bay colt had his finest moment when shedding his maiden tag over this c & d just over one year ago and though he hasn't shown much since, he continues to drop in the merit ratings and his last effort is definitely better than meets the eye. The son of Western Winter was slightly slow into stride in a strong field but should have finished much closer had he not been baulked at a crucial stage. He represents decent each/way value in this much weaker line-up and this combination had an emphatic victory on this track seven days ago

TOP BET

Race 5: RUSTAR DHOW(4)
Jockey:  Grant V/NIEKERK- Trainer: Glen KOTZEN

This is an extremely tricky low-key affair where the Glen Kotzen team is very well-represented but still caution is advised. The stable jockey Richard Fourie has chosen incorrectly in recent times and his choice to side with the gutsy recent debut winner WINGS OF HONOR could add to the top jockey's misery. Having said that, this chestnut daughter of Crusade is rated by the stable but she will be severely tested at the weights on her handicap debut. She receives just 0.5kg from her proven older stable companion RUSTAR DHOW who was pipped in the final stride by a smart sort over this c & d three weeks ago. The latter clearly escaped with a pound penalty and she could be the one to beat.

Race 6: TWILIGHT TRIP(6)
Jockey: Aldo DOMEYER- Trainer: Candice BASS-ROBINSON

TWILIGHT TRIP appeared in need of his seasonal debut when he only got going late over seven furlongs on his course debut but the smart Trippi gelding will strip much fitter today and he is unbeaten from two efforts over the mile. He usually finishes his races well so his wide draw in a likely fast run affair isn't a major concern.

VALUE BET FOR TODAY

Race 7: UNION JACK(5)
Jockey: Greg CHEYNE- Trainer: Brett CRAWFORD

The day's topliner is a most intriguing affair as it features the highly rated unbeaten Kannemeyer trained colt LAST WINTER who finally makes his hometown debut. The well-bred son of Western Winter is plagued with issues but has obvious class as his three career victories indicate. He picked up a hefty eight pound penalty for his impressive last victory though and that brings the first selection UNION JACK right into contention. The latter is a hard-knocking handicapper who is in his place but he meets the top selection on 4kgs better terms for a 2.75 lengths defeat suffered at Scottsville during the KZN winter.
