Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 2: TWICE AS SMART(10)
Jockey: Calvin HABIB Trainer: Wendy WHITEHEAD

TWICE AS SMART is rated by her stable and she made the expected improvement when staying on strongly for 2nd over this distance on the grass second time out. She was in turn exactly five lengths clear of the next placed entrant despite returning from a short absence. The daughter of Twice Over should make natural progress and she could take some beating with a promising apprentice in the saddle. Of course the main worry is how she will handle this polytrack.

TOP BET

Race 3: YARRAMAN(12)
Jockey:  Anthony DELPECH - Trainer: Alyson WRIGHT

YARRAMAN had a fair c & d debut at lengthy odds in a decent field a fortnight ago and he should make natural improvement for his in-form yard. The three-year old bay colt gets the services of a top jockey who has a great strike rate for his stable.

Race 5: OUT MY WAY(4)
Jockey:  Warren KENNEDY- Trainer: Gavin VAN ZYL

The veteran campaigner OUT MY WAY has a smart c & d record & he's been thereabouts in stronger company recently. The six-year old made steady headway for a creditable 4th in his comeback effort over six furlongs on this track two weeks ago and should strip much fitter now. He is the yard's only entrant on the card.

Race 8: SALSA QUEEN(5)
Jockey:  Calvin HABIB- Trainer: James GOODMAN

The Haddington c & d formline could be worth following in this low-key final event where SALSA QUEEN and ZILLA are expected to go close as they are back facing their own sex tonight. The former is 1kg better off with the latter for the neck defeat when she made steady progress to finish a creditable 7th recently and she gets the nod despite her awkward draw

VALUE BET FOR TODAY

Race 7: SOUTHPAW(11)
Jockey: Derryl DANIELS Trainer:  Niklaas I VAN WYK

This is a rather tricky affair despite the betting market indicating otherwise & the lightly weighted SOUTH PAW can cause a major upset on his peak showing. Admittedly, the injury plagued proven stayer prefers more ground but he had a most encouraging last effort on the grass over a similar trip. It certainly helps that he continues to drop in merit ratings. A trio of top jockeys have been engaged on form entrants who should be taken very seriously with, perhaps, PURE LOGIC being the pick of them.
