TOP BET

Race 3: CAPTAIN GAMBLER(3)

Jockey: Anton MARCUS - Trainer: Joey RAMSDEN

CAPTAIN GAMBLER has been well-travelled since the turn of the year and she hasn't disgraced herself at the highest levels, mostly against her own age group. She drops significantly in class into handicap company today and should take all the beating despite a hefty mass. The daughter of Captain Al is suited by the mile.

Race 6: ROCKY VALLEY(1)

Jockey: Anton MARCUS - Trainer: Dennis DRIER

ROCKY VALLEY disappointed on the grass last time but may have a preference for this surface as he showed with a powerful late burst to win his only polytrack attempt in his penultimate outing. The bay gelding has a stiff task with top weight but should also prefer this minimum distance and he can pull this off from the best draw.

eMeM's Comments For The Mecury Sprint

KANGAROO JACK returns to his happy hunting ground and could have a major say at the highest level today. The Gauteng visitor has a great turn of foot and is fondly remembered for his thrashing of a Grade 2 field over this c & d last season. The Querari gelding had a soft prep outing in his comeback attempt and could prove more effective than his stablemate CHAMPAGNE HAZE who produced a forward display in that last five furlong effort. The latter has drawn badly and could have his work cut-out for him to confirm that last run. The brilliant TRIP TO HEAVEN once again settled for 2nd in the Gold Challenge over a mile recently but he ran on strongly after being his customary slow starting self. Of course that formline was heavily boosted when the 3rd placed entrant Bela-bela captured a Grade 1 on 'July Day'. This versatile Trippi gelding fared badly in this contest a year ago but has been in excellent form since and must be respected. NEW PREDATOR has loads of talent and reverting to sprints, coupled with blinkers makes him a lively candidate here. The pick of the three-year olds are RIVARINE and SERGEANT HARDY, with a slight preference for the former who is the yard's only runner today.

Race 9: THE MONEY MAN(2)

Jockey: Mandla NTULI - Trainer: Craig EUDEY

THE MONEY MAN is c & d suited and can build on his improved last run in much stronger company. His wide draw isn't an issue as the four-year old usually races from off the pace and he is a narrow first selection ahead of the well drawn RUSSIAN SPEED.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY

Race 7: FROSTY FRIDAY(1)

Jockey: Warren KENNDY - Trainer: Gavin VAN ZYL

FROSTY FRIDAY was outclassed at the highest level on 'July Day' but the smart, injury plagued bay filly had two eye-catching comeback attempts prior to that and the switch to this forgiving surface could make all the difference. She showed lots of quality as a three-year old, culminating with a 3rd placing behind HEAPS OF FUN (unbeaten in two attempts on this course) in the Gauteng Fillies Guineas. However, the daughter of Western Winter suffered a setback that kept her out of action for more than a year. She drops significantly in class today and should stake a serious claim from a good draw.
