Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 2: OSTINATO(10)
Jockey: Karl ZECHNER - Trainer: Glen KOTZEN

OSTINATO has good form but just like the rest of her field, she was soundly trounced by subsequent easy winner Angel's Trumpet over this c & d six weeks ago. The daughter of Judpot finished 2nd best that day and should be highly competitive in a similar event here. Interestingly, she finished a head adrift of subsequent winner Time To Think in her penultimate run when receiving 3kgs and her conqueror went on to narrowly defeat today's market rival WOODSTOCK FAIRY when conceding 5.5kgs to the latter.

Race 3: RUSH HOUR GIRL(8)
Jockey: Greg CHEYNE - Trainer: Paddy KRUYER

The riding engagements should prove crucial in analysing the outcome of this contest and top jockey Cheyne has opted for RUSH HOUR GIRL who seeks to end a barren spell for her conditioner. This bay filly has shown fair form in her three runs to date and she finished a creditable 3rd in a far strong- er c & d event in yielding conditions four weeks ago. The daughter of Windrush should continue to improve and has strong claims on her peak showing.

Race 7: A TIME TO DREAM(2)
Jockey: Luyolo MXOTHWA - Trainer: Justin SNAITH

The day's topliner is a most intriguing affair and it features the Final Fling Stakes runner-up A TIME TO DREAM who has her second start inside eight days. The versatile daughter of Dynasty is best in at the weights on official ratings and she tried hard over the nine furlongs in the Grade 3 last week after jumping on terms. She will be cherry-ripe on her third run after the rest today and can go one better.

TOP BET

Race 8: SPENDING SPREE (6)
Jockey: Greg CHEYNEE - Trainer:  Brett CRAWFORD

The improving three-year old SPENDING SPREE has solid credentials and she wasn't disgraced when runner up in her first venture around the turn recently. She stayed on for 2nd in yielding conditions over this c & d that day and had the proven MISS MARKER three parts of a length further adrift. She is 0.5kg worse off with the latter but that first experience around the bend would have brought the bay filly on appreciably and she may prove very tough to beat, especially if adopting front-running tactics in a field that lacks a pacesetter.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 6: ULTIMATE DOLLAR(1)
Jockey:  Greg CHEYNE - Trainer: Justin SNAITH

ULTIMATE DOLLAR is a game frontrunner who will strip fitter after his decent comeback effort and he should enjoy the run of the race in this small field. The weight turnaround on his last outing with a few of today's rivals makes his task difficult but the bay gelding should still give a very good account of himself. The runner-up of that last start, his stablemate Turbulent Air boosted the form with a subsequent victory. His stable companion here, PLATINUM PRINCE is a fast improving three-year old who recently completed a hat-trick of victories. This son of Silvano picked up a hefty seven-pound penalty for that last triumph but he has an eye-catching turn of foot so a likely sedate gallop should also suit him. The pair are expected to dominate.
