In stark contrast to the previous event, there should be a strong pace here and CORTADA is expected to follow-up on his recent victory. The Marshall trained bay gelding is in the form of his life and he drew off to record an impressive triumph over WIND RIVER (0.5kg worse off) over this c & d last time out. The 3rd placed entrant Prince Alfred boosted the formline with a game subsequent win over a strong line-up. This Var gelding was raised four pounds for his exertions but he clearly has more to offer.

VERDIER wasn't disgraced in back-to-back runs behind Winter Series victor African Night Sky and the well-related Var gelding is nicely handicapped today. He had promising prior post maiden form and will relish this drop in distance. The inmate from the Adam Marcus yard is 2kgs better off with fellow three-year old and subsequent winner PEROVSKIA on their Winter Guineas clash and he can exact revenge from his good draw. The top selection finished exactly two and a half lengths adrift of the latter that day.

She has experience around the bend, having produced her career best run on debut at Durbanville and she will be cherry-ripe today. The chestnut filly is well drawn at gate 2.
