Admittedly, he still has scope for improvement but the weight reversal clearly favours the top rating.

RIVER GARDEN has already been costly to follow in his brief career but he is way better than a shocki- ng last effort. He returns to basics up the straight over sprints today and can bounce right back to best with blinkers fitted. Of course the form of his last run was boosted when his conqueror won a Grade 1 next time out.

The PE visitor KIMBERLEY STAR showed top ability in his province last season which culminated with an impressive feature victory over this distance. The weight conditions of this event makes him really tough to beat with the only slight reservation being how he will handle this track. That said, his top class conditioner is no stranger to winning big races on this course and the son of Ideal World should take a power of beating from his decent draw. Top jockey Anton Marcus has shrewdly secured the ride.

Race 8: POMONA(2)

Jockey: Anton MARCUS - Trainer: Charles LAIRD

POMONA has the best credentials but is a limited type whose conditioner has possibly found the 'perfect' race for her to exit the maiden ranks. She tired late after dictating on the polytrack over seven furlongs recently and her fitness should prove vital here. She had one encouraging grass effort over this c & d three runs back despite overracing and the daughter of Querari is most likely to again dictate her terms. She holds her main rivals safe on that High Altar performance.

MEET THE LOGANS is lightly raced and she made smart improvement when outrun late into 3rd in a high quality field over seven furlongs in her comeback run three weeks ago. She should easily cope with the drop in distance and will be fitter now. The daughter of Fort Wood meets another competitive field but she deserves plenty of respect.
