SYLVAN ON FIRE showed promise in each of her three efforts last term, the latest when easily winning her maiden victory on the inside course. The well-bred daughter of Silvano could be much better than the handicapper's early assessment and the mile should be right up her alley. Interestingly, she beat today's likely favourite KNYSNA ROSE by exactly three lengths over seven furlongs on this course in her penultimate outing and now meets that challenger on 2kgs better terms. Admittedly her yard's current form is a slight worry but she can spark a change in her trainer's fortunes. She is the yard's only runner today.

The fast improving Ideal World mare, DALLEY showed an impressive turn of foot when she thrashed subsequent winner CRANBERRY CRUSH (2kgs worse off) despite some traffic issues at the Vaal over a similar trip recently. She is again best treated at the weights on official ratings and should prove very tough to beat in this small field.

Race 9: ALI BON DUBAI(1)

Jockey: Callan MURRAY- Trainer: Geoff WOODRUFF

ALI BON DUBAI has shown ability from day one and he continued that promise when debuting for his new yard recently. He stayed on for 2nd in a workrider's event when perhaps just needing the run over ten furlongs and will strip fitter now. The slight drop in distance is no issue for the Lateral gelding who can go one better.

A moderate bunch of maidens contest this opening seven furlong event and caution is advised. The top selection EVANGELINE showed marked improvement on the tight inside course earlier this month and it must be noted that she was carded to race at the Vaal two days ago. It is likely that she will take up her place in this line-up and the switch to this standside course will be ideal for the daughter of Elusive Fort who gets a 2.5kgs apprentice allowance.
