Race 1: VAN HALEN(2)
Jockey: C Chambers   - Trainer: C Spies

The speedy and highly promising VAN HALEN crushed his rivals when heavily backed on debut over 800m on this track in late December and he would have strengthened since. The Oratorio colt should progress smartly and is clearly worth following with confidence.

Race 3: FREE AND EASY(2)
Jockey: J Sampson- Trainer: C Spies

The Corne' Spies yard could again dominate this juvenile contest with the unbeaten duo of FREE AND EASY and MISS BOOMERANG. The former landed the gamble in impressive fashion on debut at the Vaal last month. She recovered quickly to show much pace after a slightly slow start and would have come on appreciably from the performance. She receives a handy 2kgs from the latter who also showed speedy when winning both her outings thus far. That said, her recent formline didn't work out well albeit she beat male rivals and has much room for improvement.

Race 4: LEFT HOOK(6)
Jockey: P Strydom- Trainer: J Soma

LEFT HOOK showed smart improvement when staying on to be 2nd best from a poor draw over seven furlongs in a competitive contest on this course second time out. The son of Seventh Rock has a huge advantage from gate 1 today and he gave every impression that the mile is within his reach.

Race 5: SABINA'S DYNASTY(2)
Jockey: P Strydom - Trainer: P Peter

SABINA'S DYNASTY quickly showed her true worth with brilliant acceleration in her last ten furlong victory on this course and despite the resultant hefty seven pound penalty, the daughter of Dynasty still seems ahead of the handicapper. She is ready for this step-up in class and the four-year old can follow up.

VALUE BET

Race 9: MANHATTAN COCKTAIL(8)
Jockey: L Hewitson   - Trainer:M Azzie

The progressive three-year olds MANHATTAN COCKTAIL and HERO'S HONOUR renew their rivalry on their respective handicap debuts today and the fast improving, lightly raced pair, could prove to be way ahead of the handicapper's early assessment. The latter cruised to his maiden victory over this c & d over the former last month and he will be cherry-ripe today. However, it must be quickly added that the former was having his debut performance that day and he attracted outside betting support. He was slow into stride but made eye-catching progress for 2nd and then showed his true worth with an impressive subsequent win despite the seven furlongs clearly being on the sharp side for him. He is now 3kgs better off with his conqueror and could be an entirely different proposition in this fascinating end to the day's proceedings.
