The Leon Erasmus stable has done relatively well with their juveniles over the past few weeks and PIECES OF GOLD had an eye-catching debut against winners over this trip at the Vaal nine days ago. The chestnut colt showed speed and tried hard before finishing 2nd best behind the heavily supported and unbeaten favourite. The 3rd placed entrant was nearly five lengths adrift and today's rival SMALL CHANGE finished a little over that margin on his debut. This pairing would have come on appreciably from the experience and of course face maiden company now.

Race 2: BRAVE ZNDAYA(1)

Jockey: G Wrogemann- Trainer: P Matchett

This is an intriguing fillies juvenile event over five furlongs where the experienced entrants BRAVE ZNDAYA and MELARDO should dominate the market and the outcome. The former met two useful sorts when easily beaten into 2nd in both her efforts to date but the speedy bay filly should have further progress to offer. Interestingly, the 4th placed entrant of her last start Star Flyer beat the latter by just under one length subsequently.

Race 4: KINGS ARCHER(4)

Jockey: P Strydom  - Trainer: S Pettigrew

The entire' KINGS ARCHER runs well for Strydom and he is better treated on today's handicap terms after a fair recent performance in a Pinnacle Stakes contest. He was pipped over this c & d in soft conditions in his penultimate effort & can go one better now.

Race 6: ARTE(3)

Jockey: L Hewitson - Trainer: G Maroun

All eight of these ordinary fillies and mares try two miles for the first time which makes things really interesting. The Subtle Force formline on 14/12 may be worth following and the top selection ARTE has shown signs of life in recent efforts. She made eye-catching progress for 2nd over shorter earlier this month and had the 3rd placed entrant Dalley more than three lengths adrift. Of course she escaped without a penalty due to a technicality and her pedigree does suggest that she will stay all day.

Race 5: HARLAN COUNTY(3)

Jockey: K De Melo    - Trainer: G Van Zyl  

This is an interesting contest where the market may not necessarily be the best guide. HARLAN COUNTY overraced and faded as a consequence when he tried nine furlongs recently but the Pathfork gelding should be an entirely different proposition over the mile today. He showed his above-average potential with a smart penultimate feature performance. The chestnut should heavily reduce the deficit with the top weight ALSHIBAA despite being just 1kg better off.
