Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 1: WELLSPRING(1)
Jockey: Weichong MARWING - Trainer: Clinton BINDA

The speedy WELLSPRING is having his tenth outing in the maiden ranks but continues to hold his form and is a major 'player' with his top class in-form jockey aboard. The four-year old should have finished closer but for being bumped at a crucial stage of his last event. His yard has turned the corner recently.

Race 2: ISPHAN(4)
Jockey: Lyle HEWITSON - Trainer: Mike & Adam AZZIE

ISPHAN fought on gamely for a close 4th in a strong field over this c & d despite an unfavourable draw recently and he drops in class today. The Azzie inmate finished comfortably ahead of his stablemate SPRING STEEL (1kg worse off) and holds strong claims from his good draw here.

Race 3: IMPERIAL OUNCE(4)
Jockey: S'manga KHUMALO- Trainer: Sean TARRY

The entire' IMPERIAL OUNCE is only having his fifth career start and he had a soft comeback run over seven furlongs at the Vaal recently. He has shown promise to date and can certainly step-up in this much tougher field today. The Tarry inmate will strip fitter and he has experience around the turn.

TOP BET

Race 4: ALWAYS A LADY(1)
Jockey: Keagan DE MELO - Trainer: Gavin VAN ZYL

ALWAYS A LADY probably failed to stay ten furlongs in a competitive field recently but can swiftly bounce back to winning ways over today's ideal trip. The smart daughter of Dynasty had useful back-to- back victories up to nine furlongs prior to that and she drops considerably in class here. She is definitely capable of pulling this off despite the hefty mass and the likely sedate gallop will suit her.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY

Race 7: DAME KELLY(14)
Jockey: Mathew THACKERAY - Trainer: Ormond FERRARIS

DAME KELLY is a lightly raced three-year old who progressed smartly towards the latter part of last season and she could certainly be worth following this campaign. The well-related daughter of Dynasty finished 3rd behind Rockin Russian (close 2nd in Grade 1 recently) and Let It Flow (runner-up in Grade 2) in her penultimate start and then built on the performance next time out. She drew off to easily beat her older maiden rivals from a wide draw over this c & d and would have strengthened during her six week absence. She takes on considerably opposition on her handicap debut today but is progressive and should be highly competitive with her low mass and good draw.
