RACE 1

SI GIOCA raced from a handy position over 1200m on this course last time, moved up but was caught late by Piton De Neige. The manner in which she has been finishing off her races suggests that she will not have any issues with the drop to 1000m. She is having her peak run today and with luck from the widest draw, she can shed her maiden tag.

BELLA ATTRICE stayed on when third over this C&D last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. The blinkers have been removed which may do the trick. She is one of the leading contenders.

HEARTLIGHT was disappointing over 1300m last time. She finished 3 lengths behind the top choice in her penultimate run. She is 4kgs worse off at the weights today and may battle to turn the form around

RACE 2

GOLDEN PACIFIC is a winner of her last two starts. She was an impressive winner of her last start over this C&D. She took the lead at the 250m mark that day and drew clear of the opposition. She meets similar company this afternoon and can notch up the hat-trick.

SUMMER ODYSSEY is better than her last start on the turf. Her form prior to that outing was decent. She steps back up to the 1200m and may be the one to fill the exacta spot.

EUROPEAN SUMMER was running on when second over 1000m on the turf last time. She finished 3.25 lengths behind the top selection in her penultimate run. She is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today which is not enough for the tables to be turned.

RACE 3

Trainer Gavin Smith holds a strong hand in this contest and can saddle the first two past the post. JET BUND is having his first run in the Eastern Cape. It must be noted that multiple horses from his last form line have come out and won since. He tries the tongue-tie and with S’manga Khumalo in the saddle, he can win a race of this nature.

BRIDGERTON has decent recent form lines to his credit. He has finished second three times and third twice from as many starts on this course. He will be staying on at the business end.

GREY SMOKE has finished second in his last two starts over 1200m on this course. The manner in which he finishes off his races suggests that he will love the rise to 1400m. He may be the one to spoil the Smith party.

RACE 4

FINAL EDITION showed some signs of needing his local debut over 1200m on this course. The son of Dynasty will love the step up to 1900m and he should strip much fitter. He has cracked pole position and may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.

REACH FORTHE STARS is better than his last two starts. It must be noted that the form of his last outing has been franked. He is having his first run for the Gavin Smith stable and on best form shown, he should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.

SINGLE FILE took his chances in the Western Cape last time. His three efforts prior to that outing were encouraging. He is back in the Eastern Cape and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, he should have a say

RACE 5

ZIG ZAG showed some signs of a form return in his last start over 2200m on this course. Despite racing wide around the turn, the manner in which he stayed on at the finish was encouraging. He finished 1.75 lengths behind PEACE IN OUR WORLD that day. He is 2kgs better off at the weights and there should not be much separating them in the run down to the line. With a decent pace up front, he can return to winning ways.

PEACE IN OUR WORLD won a good race in his last start over 2200m on this course. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. He is in a good space and can follow up.

GLOBAL ALLY is unbeaten from two starts since relocating to the Eastern Cape. He will love the rise to 1900m and despite this being a step up in class, he can notch up the hat-trick.

Race 6

GRUE OF ICE is better than her last start over 1000m on the turf. She won a good race in her penultimate effort over this C&D. She does have an awkward draw of eight to contend with, but is likely to use her early gate speed to get across without using up too much energy.

KILMONIVAIG finished 0.25 lengths behind SYMBOL OF LOVE last time. She is 2kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. If confirming her recent improvement, she should pose a massive threat.

SYMBOL OF LOVE took on stronger company over 1600m on the turf last time. She has finished third twice from as many starts over this C&D. Luyolo Mxothwa takes the ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most.

RACE 7

KHAYA’S HOPE showed a good turn of foot when winning his last start over 1200m on the turf. He has won three times and finished second once from five starts over this distance. He is no stranger to carrying top weight and if this run has not come soon, he should take a power of beating.

PORT LOUIS has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. He has won twice, finished second once and third once from eight starts over this distance. He jumps from pole position and merits healthy respect.

NARCOS is better than his last start over this distance on the turf. He has won twice and finished third twice from five starts over this C&D. He is likely to race on the speed and may be hard to peg back.

RACE 8

ON THE ROAD AGAIN’S last two starts have been good. He should have finished closer to the winner last time as he had to be switched for running room at the 300m mark. The 5yo gelding takes a drop-in class and from his good draw of three, he may be the one to side with.

TOUREIRO challenged strongly in his last start, but found one too good in the form of Coastal Path. He is at his best over shorter, but is in a good space and cannot be ignored.

CHARLIE MALONE finished 0.1 lengths behind the second choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them at the wire
