Race 1

CANADIAN SUMMER was ultra-impressive when winning the Listed Devon Air Stakes last time. She moved up well at the top of the straight and despite shifting away from the crop, she drew clear of the opposition. The daughter of Oratorio clearly has ability and is the horse to beat.

MISS DAISY was given a peach of a ride when winning her last start over 1400m at the Vaal. She makes her way to KZN and if suited to this track, she should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.

BUTTERFLY BEAUTY won a good race when shedding her maiden tag at the second time of asking over 1200m at Kenilworth. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. The daughter of Elusive Fort does take on stronger, but she is a progressive type and should be competitive from pole position.

Race 2

NOW I GOT YOU produced an eye-catching effort when finishing second in the Grade 1 Gold Medallion last time. The manner in which he stayed on at the finish that day was encouraging. He has class about him and if not too green around the turn, he should find himself in the winner’s enclosure.

TAIKONAUT was super-impressive when winning his last start against older rivals. He showed good speed that day, quickened up well and won with a ton in hand. He is likely to adopt the same tactics from his wide draw of ten and may be hard to peg back.

THYMETOSHINE found plenty of betting support when winning his maiden over 1200m at the Vaal. He does take on stronger opposition this afternoon, but is progressive and should give a good account of himself from pole position.

Race 3

SHANGO won a good race in the Grade 3 Lonsdale Stirrup Cup last time. He was settled just off the leaders, moved up under Gavin Lerena and fought hard to hold FLYING BULL at bay. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He runs well at this time of the year and will be looking to defend his title.

AIRWAYS LAW has found a new lease on life since the gelding. The manner in which he quickened up and ran on from the tail of the field in the Grade 3 Cup Trial, was impressive. He has the widest draw of eleven to contend with once again, but is capable of notching up his sixth career victory.

FLYING BULL finished 0.25 lengths behind SHANGO last time. He is 1kg better off at the weights which is enough to turn the form around. However, with CROWN TOWERS in the race, he may not have his own way in front.

Race 4

BLACK THORN is one of the better bets on the card. He won a good race in his last start over 1800m at Turffontein. His penultimate run in the Grade 3 Gold Bowl over 3200m behind Nebraas was encouraging. The son of Pomodoro has no stamina issues and if all went well with his travels, he should take a power of beating.

CRIMSON KING has shown signs of needing his last two starts after returning from an 18-week break. His last good effort came under Richard Fourie. He should have no issues with the rise to 3000m and will be at peak fitness.

SMOKING HOT showed good signs of a form return last time. The manner in which she stayed on at the finish that day was encouraging. She jumps from pole position and if not in need of the run, she should give the males a run for their money.

Race 5

MAHARANEE has been super-impressive in each of her four victories to date. She set the pace over this distance at Turffontein last time and despite ducking at the 200m mark, she won with a ton in hand. She does have an awkward draw of nine to overcome, but is likely to use her early gate speed to get across without using up too much energy. She is a type that should have no issues with this course and can remain unbeaten.

SWEET PEPPER came from last when winning the Grade 1 Allan Robertson Championship last time. She has cracked a good draw of four and should have no issues with the rise to 1400m. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.

AMEENA finished 4.3 lengths behind the second choice last time. The manner in which she finished off her race that day suggests that she will love the rise to 1400m. Richard Fourie retains the ride and she can run into the placings.

Race 6

Trainer Glen Kotzen holds a strong hand in this contest and he can saddle the first two past the post. GRINKOV is a good looking son of Twice Over who has won his last two starts with ease. The manner in which he quickened up over 1600m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville was eye-catching. He has plenty of ability and from his midfield draw, he should notch up the hat-trick.

COUSIN CASEY went from gun to tape when winning the Listed Gatecrasher Stakes last time. He is likely to adopt the same tactics from barrier eleven and merits healthy respect.

BRIGHT GREEN was super-impressive when winning on debut over 1200m on this course. He made his run down the inside of the course and won with a ton in hand. He looks to be above average, but the obvious concern is the widest draw of fourteen. With luck in running, he has the ability to be competitive.

Race 7

Africa’s Greatest Horserace has arrived and it is a high-quality field. The pace for this contest is a concern, but POMP AND POWER is a versatile type who has won races from the front and from off the speed. He ran a creditable second in the Grade 1 Daily News 2000 last time, despite being above himself from the time that he left the parade ring. His victory in the Grade 1 Jonsson Workwear Cape Derby, three runs ago was impressive. He was settled in a midfield position that day and showed a good turn of foot to draw clear. Richard Fourie has won this race three times and he knows how to get the best out of the son of Vercingetorix.

SAFE PASSAGE was super-impressive when winning the Grade 1 Daily News 2000 last time. It was his first run after a 12-week break. He would have come on from the run and should come into this race at peak fitness. Muzi Yeni is unbeaten on the son of Silvano and will be looking to keep that record intact.

LINEBACKER has had the perfect preparation heading into this race. He finished second in this race last year and has every chance of going one better.

Race 8

CAPTAIN’S RANSOM won a very good race in the Grade 1 SA Fillies Sprint which was over a distance short of her best. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. She is a multiple Grade 1 winner over this distance. The daughter of Captain Al would have come on from her last outing and she should take a power of beating.

UNDER YOUR SPELL stayed on when finishing 3.05 lengths behind the top choice last time. She won a good race in the Grade 2 WSB Fillies Guineas in her penultimate run. She jumps from a good draw of three and should be the one to fill the exacta spot.

SILVER DARLING was an impressive winner in the Grade 1 Woolavington 2000 last time. She finished 2.3 lengths behind the second choice in her penultimate run. The classy daughter of Silvano has won twice over this distance and merits healthy respect.

Race 9

This is a competitive Grade 2 Post Merchants field and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is WILLIAM ROBERTSON from the Corne Spies yard. He has been an impressive winner of his last two starts, the latest of which was over 1400m at Turffontein. He has won once and finished third twice from four starts on this course. S’manga Khumalo retains the ride and with a bit of luck from barrier twelve, he should notch up the hat-trick.

BARTHOLDI challenged strongly in the Grade 1 Golden Horse Sprint last time, but found one too good in the form of Alesian Chief. He always gives of his best and will be right there at the finish.

SOUND OF WARNING is a filly taking on the males. She stayed on nicely when third in the Grade 1 SA Fillies Sprint last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. She jumps from a handy draw of six and should be competitive.

Race 10

WARRIOR finished 0.1 lengths behind GENTLEMAN’S WAGER last time. He is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish. He has won four times, finished second once and third once from seven starts over this distance. He will strip much fitter for this outing and can return to winning ways.

GENTLEMAN’S WAGER should have finished closer to the winner last time as he had to be eased at the 300m mark. His wide draw of eleven is a slight concern, but with a bit of luck, he should go close to winning.

XAVION has found a form return in his last two starts after the gelding. He should have finished closer to William Robertson last time as he hung in the closing stages. He is having his peak run today and should be cherry-ripe. If suited to this course, he should fight out the finish.

Race 11

CONQUER THE ENEMY ran a good race when finishing second in his comeback run over 1600m last time. He raced from a handy position, found another kick and rallied late. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He has won once and finished second once from three starts on this course. The son of Vercingetorix should strip much fitter today and can go one better.

WILLOW’S WISH should have finished closer last time as he clipped heels at the 800m mark. He takes a drop in class and if suited to the Polytrack, he should pose a big threat to the top choice.

SUNDAY ISLAND was given a peach of a ride when winning his last start over 2000m on this course. He meets a similar type of field and with Grant van Niekerk back in the saddle, he merits healthy respect.

Race 12

FLASHY KAITRINA showed good signs of a form return in her last start over 1400m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. The manner in which she stayed on at the finish that day suggests that she should not have any issues with the rise to 1600m. The blinkers have been removed for this outing and from pole position, she may find herself in the winner’s enclosure.

LADY MACBETH’S last two starts have been fair. She finished her last race off well over 1200m and will enjoy the rise to the mile. She has cracked a good draw of three and must be included in all bets.

ANGEL OF JUSTICE was running on when second over this distance on the turf last time. She takes a drop in class and with 4kgs claiming apprentice Siphesihle Hlengwa retaining the ride, she should have a say in the outcome of this contest
