Race 1:
This is a weak Maiden Plate and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is WHAT A RYDER from the Dean Kannemeyer stable. He raced from a handy position last time and fought hard all the way to the line, but found one too good in the form of Montana Sky. He should enjoy the drop back in trip and in this type of field, he can shed his maiden tag.
NEVERENDING LOVE is a filly taking on the males. Her last three starts over this distance have been good. Luke Ferraris takes the ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most.
RUBONDO was his own worst enemy last time as he overraced in the early stages. His penultimate run when finishing fourth over 1200m catches the eye. He should be cherry-ripe and cannot be ignored with Richard Fourie in the saddle.
Race 2:
EMERALD ISLA should have finished much closer last time as she had no luck up the straight. She has finished second once and third three times from six starts over this distance. She jumps from a much better barrier position today and should represent decent each way value.
LADY OF LUTETIA stayed on nicely to finish second in her comeback run over 1400m on the turf. She finished second in her only attempt on this course. The daughter of Duke Of Marmalade should strip much fitter today and merits healthy respect.
GLOBAL APPEAL has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. She should have finished closer last time as she shifted away from the crop in the closing stages. Lyle Hewitson does duty and the pair should be competitive.
Race 3:
SILVER STARDUST produced an eye-catching debut effort over 1600m on the turf. The manner in which he stayed on at the finish that day was encouraging. The son of Silvano has changed stables since that outing. He would have come on with the run under his belt and with the natural improvement that is expected, he should go one better.
PREDATOR has decent recent form lines to his credit. He was reported to be cut into last time which didn’t help his chances. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces
FISTS OF FIRE was a tad disappointing in his last start over 1800m on the turf. He finished third in his only attempt on this course. He jumps from a much better draw this afternoon and it is encouraging that Anton Marcus keeps faith in the ride.
Race 4:
CALIENTE has good recent form lines to his credit. He returns from a 12-week break, which may have done him the world of good. He has won five times, finished second three times and third three times from 13 starts on this course. He won his only attempt over this distance and if not in need of the run, he should find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
SIR MICHAEL stayed on strongly when finishing third in his local debut at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. He should strip much fitter today and if suited to the Polytrack, he should pose a threat.
NATIVE TONGUE finished 1.1 lengths behind the second choice last time. He is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair in the run down to the line.
Race 5:
Dennis Drier holds a strong hand in this contest and can saddle the first two past the winning post. TONIGHTSFIGHTNIGHT was outpaced over the minimum trip last time, but the manner in which he finished off his race was eye-catching. It must be noted that there have been multiple winners from that form line. He has won twice and finished third once from four starts over this C&D. He carries a handy galloping mass of 53.5kgs and should be the one to beat.
GOLIATH HERON showed good signs of a form return last time. He takes a drop in class and will be staying on at the finish.
SO VAR has some decent recent form lines to his credit. He cast a shoe in the running last time, which didn’t help his chances. He carries a handy galloping mass this afternoon and cannot be ignored.
Race 6:
PURPLE PERSUASION produced a good comeback run when finishing third over this distance on the turf last time. The manner in which she stayed on at the finish that day was encouraging. She won her only attempt over this C&D. She should strip a much fitter horse this afternoon and can return to winning ways.
MEET AT THE GEORGE has top recent form lines to her credit. She has won twice, finished second once and third once from seven starts over this distance. With a bit of luck from her awkward draw, she should go close.
GAYLEACTIC STAR finished 2.9 lengths behind the second choice last time. She is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.
Race 7:
SILVER MARIA ran a good race when finishing fourth in her last start over 1950m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. The manner in which she finished off her race that day was encouraging. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. She should strip a much fitter horse today and if suited to the polytrack, she should take a power of beating.
QUEPID was given a peach of a ride when winning her last start over 1600m on this course. The manner in which she finished off her race that day suggests she will enjoy the extra distance on offer. 1.5kgs claiming apprentice Thabiso Gumede retains the ride and the combination should go close.
SEA VENTURE raced wide around the turn last time and understandably lacked a finish up the straight. She won her only attempt over this C&D. On best form shown, she should run a big race.
Race 8:
ORIGAMI won a good race in his last start over this distance on the turf. He took the lead at the 250m mark that day and won with a ton in hand. He takes a drop in class this afternoon and jumps from a much better barrier position. He should notch up his third career victory.
SECRET IS OURS followed up his post maiden win with a good second-place finish over 1600m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. He tries further and if switching off early, he should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.
MAMBO SYMPHONY was a tad disappointing in his last start over 1800m. He has won once and finished third once from as many starts over this C&D. If putting his best foot forward, he should run into the money.
Race 9
GAVEL STRIKE ran a good race when finishing third in his last start over a mile on this course. He lost a length at the start, but finished his race off strongly. It must be noted that the horse that finished fifth that day has come out and won since. He will enjoy the step up to the ten furlongs and can return to winning ways.
TIGER TANK finished 0.3 lengths behind FIREONTHETRACK last time. He is 1kg better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He does have a wide draw to overcome, but should use his early gate speed to get across without using up too much energy.
FIREONTHETRACK was given a strong ride when winning his last start over 1800m on this course. If repeating that effort today, he should be one of the leading contenders
