Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 1: LADY JACKSON(9)
Jockey: L Hewitson - Trainer: Janse van Vuuren

LADY JACKSON has promising form and the Gauteng visitor returns to these shores after her creditable last performance on local debut on the grass. She acquitted herself well in mixed company in her penultimate start and should be highly competitive here. The first timers could pose a real threat and the betting market should be closely followed.

TOP BET FOR TODAY

Race 4: TUULIKKI(10)
Jockey: M Ntuli - Trainer: G Puller

TUULIKKI was unfancied when she stayed on strongly for 2nd on debut over this trip at Scottsville last month and the daughter of Oratorio should make natural improvement. Her jockey has found some form recently and she is his only ride on the card.

Race 5: ELEGANT GENERAL(1)
Jockey:  L Ferraris - Trainer: Robbie Hill

ELEGANT GENERAL is a track specialist who bounced back to form when finishing close-up behind subsequent winner Roy's Taxi and the runner-up HONEST PRINCE (2nd next time out) last month. He meets the latter on 3.5kgs better terms and quite significantly trainer Robbie Hill's charge is better suit- ed to this minimum distance. He gets the services of an in-form 4kgs claiming apprentice.

Race 8: SWEET PRESERVE(11)
Jockey:  W Kennedy - Trainer: G Van Zyl

This is an interesting maiden contest over the mile where the first selection goes to the juvenile SWEET PRESERVE, purely due to her cracking penultimate effort in her only track performance. The bay daughter of Duke Of Marmalade was returning from an 11 week absence but she still ran on strongly for a close 2nd and had her older rival KINGLASSIE comfortably behind her. Of course she was expected to do more on the grass subsequently but may have still needed the run and should be cherry-ripe today.

VALUE BET FOR TODAY

Race 6: GINGER BISCUIT(10)
Jockey: K De Melo - Trainer: P Lunn

The six-year old mare and track specialist GINGER BISCUIT produced a highly satisfactory last six furlong outing behind the well-bred Cape visitor, PRINCESS VICKY, when she got going late to finish just over two lengths adrift of the latter. She is 1.5kgs to the good here but the drop to her most successful trip could be the real reason for a possible form reversal. Admittedly, the latter will be fitter and has huge scope for progress but she will be pushed rather hard by some equally quick types and that could hamper her chances, particularly as she is drawn wide.
