Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 2: VOMANDLA(12)
Jockey: Greg CHEYNE - Trainer: Willem A NEL

Once again there are half a dozen newcomers to be wary of but all eyes will surely be on WATER SPIRIT from the Brett Crawford yard, particularly as the well-bred daughter of Jackson is the solitary mount of visiting jockey Anton Marcus. The three-year-old bay filly is out of a Western Winter mare and she is related to a host of winners.

That said, there are some experienced entrants with good form and VOMANDLA from the Nel yard will certainly test the resolve of the top selection. This daughter of Sail From Seattle was quietly fancied when she took off late, only to be denied victory by a short head on debut over this c & d five weeks ago. She finished slightly ahead of the highly rated Juniper Spring from the Snaith yard and she would have come on appreciably from that outing.

Race 3: BUNKER HUNT(6)
Jockey: Richard FOURIE  - Trainer: Justin SNAITH

BUNKER HUNT was expectedly green on debut but he took off late for a close 2nd to the useful speedster Elusive Trader over five furlongs three weeks ago. He had the in-form Shadowing behind him that day and trainer Nel's charge would have come on smartly from that start. The bay gelding should enjoy this extra furlong.

Race 5: TEVEZ(1)
Jockey: Ryan MUNGER - Trainer: Candice BASS-ROBINSON

The veteran campaigner TEVEZ earned himself another term courtesy of some useful form since the summer despite a below-par last showing in similar company. The nine-year-old seems to prefer this minimum trip nowadays and of course, he produced a strong burst to easily win his penultimate start over this track & trip. He is again best weighted in this pinnacle stakes.

TALITHA BOREALIS is clearly on the up and her smart last effort in the Winter Oaks is evidence of this. The Snaith inmate was returning from a short absence but she ran on well for 3rd and will be fitter now. The slight area of concern is the below-par showing of the runner-up Dynasty's Blossom but her conqueror Fresnaye made up for that when finishing 2nd best behind the fast improving local sensation Brave Move.

Race 6: CAVALLERIA(3)
Jockey: Louis BURKE - Trainer: Paddy KRUYER

CAVALLERIA showed her preference for this trip when the customary slow-starter finished powerfully for a close 3rd in a contest that is well-represented in today's form. The chestnut mare was returning from a short break so she will strip fitter and she merits respect.
