TOP BET FOR TODAY
Race 2: HERO'S HONOUR(1)
Jockey: D Schwarz - Trainer: G Alexander
Last season's Derby victor, HERO'S HONOUR dug deep to beat some useful youngsters over this trip in just his second outing this term and he is again best weighted to claim first prize. He is versatile in terms of tactics and the switch to this tight circuit may not hamper his progress. The Tarry inmate RETURN FLIGHTis a high quality filly who is way better than her shocking last run and last season's juvenile Grade 1 winner could enjoy the run of the race here.
Race 3: CHEVRON(10)
Jockey: G Lerena- Trainer: Nieuwenhuizen
CHEVRON had a creditable second outing from a wide draw on his track debut and should make further progress from his favourable barrier position today. The injury plagued SHANGHAI TANG returned to form in his comeback run following a lengthy 35 week absence and the Tarry charge should strip much fitter here.
Race 4: TAMARINA(6)
Jockey: R Danielson - Trainer: A Laird
The fast improving daughter of Judpot, TAMARINA, faces another stern test as she debuts on this track and she meets recent runner-up BEING FABULOUS on 2kgs worse terms for the recent 1.20 lengths defeat. That said, the progressive four-year old still appears to have plenty more to offer and she could be worth following. Of course the latter holds a solid track record and she merits huge respect with top rider Lerena retaining the mount
Race 5: NIMCHA(1)
Jockey: D Schwarz - Trainer: G Alexander
NIMCHA has shown decent form since return from a short absence and this slight drop in distance should suit him perfectly. The slight worry is that the runner-up of his recent outing Flapjack has been a little disappointing in two subsequent starts. STALKING was soundly beaten by the first selection in his poor last attempt but the unkindest cut of all may have done the trick for the capable son of Dynasty.
VALUE BET
Race 6: WHATABEAUTY(10)
Jockey: M Thackeray- Trainer: L Erasmus
WHATABEAUTY had an amazing recent six day spell where she had her maiden triumph in Kimberley and then followed up with a totally surprising post maiden run over further on this track. The bay daughter of Brave Tin Soldier stayed on strongly for a close 4th in that marathon contest against male rivals where she performed way above her current low rating and she should be a huge contender back in a handicap today
