VARS VICKY ran a very good race on debut over this distance at the Vaal. He jumped inwards at the start, hung in the closing stages but the manner in which he finished off his race was encouraging. He found betting support that day which would suggest that he had been showing good work back at home. The son of Var would have come on with the run under his belt and with the natural improvement that is expected, he should go one better here.

DUKE OF GOLD showed some improvement when finishing fourth in his last start over this C&D. The manner in which he stayed on at the finish that day was encouraging. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. The son of Duke Of Marmalade looks to be progressive and with a bit of luck from his outside barrier position, he should be the one to beat.

BERGERAC followed up his maiden victory with another impressive win over 1450m on the Inside course. He raced from a handy position that day and the manner in which he drew off in the latter stages caught the eye. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. The son of Var takes a rise in class today, but he looks to have ability and may be up to the task at hand
Race 6: BARAK (4)
Jockey: Sherman BROWN - Trainer: Mike DE KOCK
BARAK is a maiden taking on winners but this is not the strongest Handicap field and he may be up to the task at hand. He has shown that he takes time to unwind and the fitting of the blinkers may do the trick. Sherman Brown knows the son of Master Of My Fate well and the combination should find themselves in the winner's enclosure.

Jockey: Piere STRYDOM - Trainer: Brett WARREN
SMOKE has produced two decent runs since the return of racing. He took on much stronger company in his last start and was not disgraced when finishing just over two lengths behind the winner. He has won once and finished second once from three starts on this course. He takes a drop in class this afternoon and with Piere Strydom in the saddle, he should be the one they all have to beat.
