Maritzburg United and Free State Stars contest the Nedbank Cup final in Cape Town on Saturday, a rare short at a trophy for two sides who have put together very solid seasons.
The Team of Choice knocked Absa Premiership title winners Mamelodi Sundowns out at the semi final stage with a 3-1 win on home turf. In the earlier rounds they were drawn away to lower league opposition, first beating Swallows FC 3-1 after extra time and following up with a 2-1 win at NFD side Royal Eagles. In the quarter finals they beat Bloem Celtic 2-1 and this final appearance puts the gloss on an excellent Absa Premiership campaign, finishing in a lofty fourth spot with 44 points.
Free State Stars:
Free State Stars also sprang something of a surprise in their semi final, ousting Kaizer Chiefs with a 2-0 win in Durban. Prior to that they came through each of the previous rounds with very little to spare. Stars edged out NFD side Ubuntu Cape Town on penalty kicks in the quarter finals after a 1-1 draw, a late goal saw off Chippa for a 2-1 home victory in the last 16 and they needed extra time to see off NFD side Super Eagles 2-1 at the start of this cup run.
In the Absa Premiership Stars finished in sixth place, 4 points shy of Maritzburg

This trophy would mean so much to both sides and it could well be a cagey affair. I’ll take my chance on a low scoring game with no more than 1 goal in each half.
Bet: 90 mins, Both halves under 1.5 goals? (yes) at even money
