Friday night’s televised Absa Premiership fixture promises to be a cracker as Maritzburg United host Orlando Pirates a top of the table clash
The Team of Choice have made an excellent start to the season, taking 7 points from their first 3 league outings and reaching the semi finals of the MTN8 where they pushed Supersport all the way before going down 3-1 on aggregate. Coming into this game they top the log on goal difference ahead of Pirates with Sundowns a point adrift in third. With a limited weekend coupon due to some teams involvement in CAF competitions this is an opportunity for any winner of this game to go clear at the top.
Maritzburg started their league campaign with 2-0 wins away to Platinum Stars and at home to Ajax and in midweek they drew 1-1 in a KZN derby away to Amazulu
The Bucs also have 2 wins and 1 draw to show for their efforts so far. They remain unbeaten after a 1-0 home win over Chippa and a 1-1 draw away at Baroka was followed by another 1-0 home victory over Ajax in midweek. That represents a reasonable “friendly” set of fixtures to open the campaign and this game will tell us more about Pirates’ well being under coach Milutin Sredojevic. With no MTN8 involvement this season Pirates have been restricted to just the 3 league outings, half the number of competitive matches their opponents here have played.
Recent Head to Head
Pirates 2-0 Maritzburg
Maritzburg 2-1 Pirates
Maritzburg United 15/10
Orlando Pirates 2/1

The match result looks tricky to me with any of the 3 possible outcomes coming as no great surprise. I’m going to make a stats call here and with 6 of the last 8 head to heads in any competition having resulted in 2-3 goals in total I’ll go with that trend to continue.
Bet: Total match goals, 2-3 at 9/10
