Sundowns have played just 1 league match since 12th March when they were 2-1 winners at Maritzburg and that most recent Absa Premiership outing produced a 0-0 draw with Pirates in Orlando. Since then Downs have progressed to the Champions League semi finals and they were most impressive in demolishing Al Ahly 5-0 in a quarter final home fixture. They did lose the return 1-0 away from home but the job was done and for now it’s back to focusing on the title race.
The lack of league games has seen Sundowns fall 6 points behind Pirates in the title race but the Bucs have played 3 games more so technically the defence of the Absa Premiership title is still very much in Sundowns own hands. They have won 11, drawn 11 and lost 2 of their 24 league outings although 7 of those draws did arrive in home fixtures.
Supersport come into the game in sixth place, 4 points behind Sundowns and they have played 1 game more. Their own ambitions of a late challenge for the title have been checked by successive draws in home games against Kaizer Chiefs (1-1) and most recently Polokwane City (0-0). They did beat Pirates 1-0 in a home fixture in February but goals have been hard to come by of late with just 5 registered in their last 6 league games. .
Head to Head
The first league meeting this season saw Sundowns win 2-1 in early December.
Sunowns took 4 points off Supersport in the 2 derby matches last season and Downs haven’t lost a league game to their local rivals since the 2012/13 campaign.
The pressure is pretty much all on Sundowns but they have a terrific record against Supersport and I fancy Downs will edge this one by a single goal margin.
Bet: Winning margin, Sundowns by 1 goal exactly at 23/10
