Durban is the venue for the MTN8 final on Saturday, Orlando Pirates clash with Stellenbosch and as defending champions it's the Bucs who start as the bookmakers favourites

 

 

 

Orlando Pirates

 

Pirates won this competition last season and can also lay claim to having lifted this trophy in 3 of the last 4 seasons.

 

They saw off Supersport 3-1 in the MTN8 quarter finals on home turf to set up a two legged semi final with Cape Town City. They drew the first leg 1-1 away from home and finished the job with a 2-0 win in Orlando.

 

In the Betway Premiership the Bucs have won each of their first 3 matches and they are second to Sundowns on goal difference.

 

Pirates have also been involved in CAF Champions League qualifying and they ran out 3-0 winners against Jwaneng Galaxy of Botswana across the two legs.

 

Stellenbosch

 

On their way to the final Stellenbosch beat TS Galaxy 3-1 in a home quarter final. That set up a semi final with Sundowns and Stellies won both legs by a 1-0 scoreline, Basadien scored from the penalty spot away from home and Mojela was on target in the second leg.

 

In the Betway Premiership Stellenbosch have 1 win, 1 draw and 1 defeat against their name and they are in mid table in the early season standings.

 

Stellies also completed a fine 3-1 aggregate win over AS Vita in the CAF Confederations Cup which was set up by a 2-0 home win.

Pirates are 8/10 to win the final in regulation time with the draw at 21/10 and Stellenbosch are 3.77/1

 

A game of 3 goals or more in regulation time is 12/10 and it's just over even money for both teams to score.

 

The Verdict:

 

Taking into account form across all competitions Pirates are unbeaten this season and Stellies have only lost once so it should be quite a tussle with R10m awaiting the winning club.

 

At these prices the value rests with the draw in my opinion and it's anyone's game thereafter.
