DSTVPremFriday's DSTV Premiership match between Royal AM and Orlando Pirates will go a long way to determining which team will finish in the runners up spot.

Royal AM

This is the last game of the season for Royal AM who are in fifth position. All 4 of the teams above them have completed their DSTV Premiership fixtures, as we know Sundowns have long since had the title wrapped up but the runners up spot and CAF Champions League qualification is up for grabs.

Cape Town City are currently in second spot, 3 points better off than Royal AM who have a better goal difference. Royal AM are without a win in their last 5 league games, most recently going down 3-2 to Sundowns and sharing 4 goals with Golden Arrows. They have won 9 of 14 designated home games, drawing 3 and losing just 2.

Orlando Pirates

Pirates are also in with a shout. They have 2 games remaining, this one and a clash with Supersport and they are 3 points behind Royal AM and 6 behind Cape Town City. The Bucs goal difference is +8 compared to Royal AM's +12 but they thrashed Maritzburg 4-1 earlier this week and the manner and margin of that victory suggests they still believe they can snatch second spot.

After losing the final of the Caf Confed Cup on spot kicks as recently as last Friday and then turning out against Maritzburg fatigue could well be an issue for the Bucs. As is the case for Royal AM, a top 4 finish would see them in the Confed Cup again next season but the big prize is the Champions League.

Recent Head to Head

The first league meeting this season was staged at the end of October and it finished in a 1-1 draw.

The Betting

In the early betting Royal AM are trading at 2.05/1 to win the game with the draw at 1.85/1 and Pirates can be backed at 1.46/1

A game of 3 goals or more is 1.55/1 and it's 11/10 for both teams to score.

The Verdict

It's an intriguing game given both sides have a chance of second place. Whichever side scores first its possible they may opt to hold what they have but I see plenty of scope for both sides to register a goal.
