As we head towards the final round of matches in the regular Super Rugby season we take in a betting update to win the tournament and look at what the teams on the fringes of the play offs need to do to reach the quarter finals.
Top spot in the overall standings goes to the Crusaders. The defending champions sit out Round 18 but they are 9 points clear of the Hurricanes and will remain in Christchurch for as long as they stay in the tournament.
The Brumbies have secured top spot in the Australian Conference and will also host a quarter final, as will Jaguares who cannot be overhauled in the South African Conference. The other quarter final will see the Hurricanes have home advantage.
Thereafter it gets more complex and bear in mind if teams finish with the same number of log points then the number of wins is the first port of call. As it stands the sides that will travel for quarter finals are the Bulls, Lions, Stormers and the Rebels.
The final round of matches sees a number of intriguing match ups.
Of the New Zealand play off hopefuls the Chiefs can overhaul the Rebels if they win away to the Melbourne side on Friday. The Highlanders (at home to the Waratahs) can still force their way back in to the picture but their number of wins is inferior to the Chiefs and that could yet be their undoing.
The Sharks are currently outside the top 8 but victory at Newlands on Saturday would see them replace the Stormers in the play offs
The final match this weekend sees the Bulls host the Lions and by then both these sides will know what they need to do to avoid elimination.
