football.psgDortmund host PSG in the first leg of the Uefa Champions League Round of 16 on Tuesday night and the visitors start as favourites to take early control of the tie.

Dortmund finished as runners up to Barcelona in the group stage, just pipping Inter Milan to the remaining qualification place whilst Slavia Prague were fourth. A 3-2 home win over Inter was the crucial result and the other victories came home and away against Slavia whilst a home game against Barca finished without a goal.

The German top flight is ultra competitive this season with the top 5 sides covered by just 5 points and at the time of writing Dortmund were in third spot, 3 points off the pace. They are unbeaten at home in Bundesliga 1 with 8 wins and 3 draws, scoring all of 40 goals and conceding 10.

In the betting to be crowned Uefa Champions this season Dortmund are trading in the region of 33/1. In the Round of 16 last season Dortmund were beaten home and away by Spurs to crash out 4-0 on aggregate.

PSG topped their qualifying group, unbeaten with 5 wins and 1 draw to finish 5 points clear of Real Madrid with Club Brugge and Galatasaray way back in third and fourth. They scored 17 goals and conceded just 2 and the only points dropped came in a 2-2 draw in Madrid.

PSG are once again in control of the French Ligue 1 title race and at the time of writing they were 13 points clear of Marseilles. They have won 10 of their 13 away games, drawing 1 and losing 2.

PSG are generally a 15/2 chance to win the Champions League title this time around. In the Round of 16 last season PSG looked to be in control of their clash with Manchester United after a 2-0 win away from home in the first leg but in Paris they were beaten 3-1 and went out on away goals.

Verdict:

Home form would appear to be by far Dortmund's strongest hand so you expect a positive approach from the German side in a bid to take a lead to Paris. I'm not overly convinced about their chances of that but PSG do have a habit of fluffing their lines in the knockout rounds.

I fancy goals but the prices are very much on the short side and of the quotes in the match result market the draw made most appeal.
