Eintracht Frankfurt

After coming through the group stage unbeaten Frankfurt's run in the knockout rounds began in Sevilla when they won the first leg of their clash with Betis 2-1. The return went to extra time and a very late own goal saw Frankfurt draw 1-1 on the night to go through on aggregate. That set up a ¼ final clash with Barcelona and after a 1-1 draw in the first leg in Frankfurt the Bundesliga side pulled off a shock in the return with a 3-2 win. In the semi finals Frankfurt won 2-1 at West Ham and 1-0 on home turf.

In the Bundesliga Frankfurt finished just below half way in the standings, winning 10, drawing 12 and losing 12 of their matches.

Rangers

Rangers have played 4 knockout round matches and the first of those saw them eliminate Dortmund, winning 4-2 in Germany and the they drew 2-2 in Glasgow. After that they put Crvena zvezda away, 5-1 on aggregate and in the last 8 they lost 1-0 at Braga before turning that tie around with a 3-1 win in extra time in Glasgow. The semi finals saw Rangers meet German opposition again. They lost the first leg 1-0 to RB Leipzig and won the return 3-1 in front of their own supporters.

Rangers finished as runners up to Celtic in the Scottish Premiership, 4 points adrift of their rivals with a record of 27 wins, 8 draws and 3 defeats. After this they contest the Scottish FA Cup Final against Hearts at the weekend.

The Verdict:

It's 14 years since Rangers last contested a European final and given they have already knocked out Dortmund and Leipzig, confidence will be high. However Frankfurt's displays in this competition are far more impressive than their Bundesliga season and this means plenty to them as well.

All in it looks a tricky match to weigh up to me and gut feel is it could go the full distance.

Bets: 90 minute correct score 1-1 at 11/2

Match to be decided after a penalty shoot out? (yes) at 5/1
