Liverpool

Liverpool booked their ticket to the final with a 5-2 aggregate win over Villarreal in the semi's but it wasn't as straight forward as the scoreline suggests. After a 2-0 win at Anfield in the first leg Liverpool were 2-0 down at half time of the return in Spain but they recovered their composure and came back with 3 unanswered goals from Fabinho, Luis Diaz and Mane.

Liverpool beat Benfica 6-4 on aggregate in the quarter finals. They won the first leg in Lisbon by a 3-1 scoreline (Konaté, Mane and Díaz) and they were 3-1 up (Konaté , Firmino 2) in the return at one stage before Benfica fought back late in the game. Liverpool won the first leg of their Round of 16 clash with Inter 2-0 in Milan and although they were beaten 1-0 in the return at Anfield they went through 2-1 on aggregate.

Liverpool won all 6 of their group matches to finish well clear of Atletico Madrid with Porto third and AC Milan finishing bottom of one of the stronger quartets.

After a titanic battle with Manchester City in the EPL title race Liverpool came up just short, 1 point behind the league leaders. They have completed an FA Cup and League Cup double, beating Chelsea on each occasion on spot kicks after both matches finished without a goal.

Real Madrid

Real Madrid completed an amazing late comeback to beat Manchester City 6-5 on aggregate in their semi final match up. Real were 4-3 down after the first leg in Manchester and when City opened the scoring in the second half of the second leg in Madrid they looked to be heading out. Two injury time goals from Rodrygo sent the game into extra time where Benzema's penalty sent Real through.

Real beat Chelsea 5-4 on aggregate in the last 8. Another Banzema hat trick in the first leg put Real in control of the tie. They won the first leg 3-1 at Stamford Bridge but the return finished 3-1 in Chelsea's favour before an extra time goal, again from Benzema, saw Real through.

Prior to that Real Madrid knocked PSG out of the Round of 16. They were 1-0 down following the first leg in Paris and conceded first in the return before Benzema scored 3 goals in 17 second half minutes to go through 3-2 on aggregate. Real made short work of the group stage, winning 5 and losing 1 of their matches to finish 5 points clear of Inter with Sheriff third and Shakhtar fourth.

Real won the La Liga title, finishing 13 points clear of Barcelona.

The Betting

Liverpool are currently 21/20 to win the final in regulation time with the draw at 26/10 and Real Madrid can be backed at 5/2

A game of 3 goals or more is priced at 0.73/1 and it's 0.63/1 for both teams to score in 90 minutes.

Salah is 7/2 to score the first goal and 5/4 to score any time in 90 mins

Benzema is 7/2 to score the first goal and 5/4 to score any time in 90 mins

In the 90 minute correct score market 1-1 is trading at around 6/1

To lift the trophy via any method of victory Liverpool are 0.62/1 and Real can be backed at 12/10

The Verdict:

Real have already seen off Chelsea and Manchester City in ties that went into extra time whilst Liverpool's wins in domestic finals (against Chelsea) both went to penalty kicks and whilst I think we will see goals, I wouldn't be surprised if this one also goes beyond 90 minutes.

In the knockout rounds Liverpool generally started their first legs on the front foot and I fancy them to score the first goal and for Real to fight back.

The potential goalscorers on both sides have some obvious candidates but with plenty of scope for free kicks in the final third dead ball specialist Alexander-Arnold is my pick at long odds.

I'm not going to throw much at this game but will speculate with the following to small stakes.

Bets: 90 min Correct Score 1-1 at 6/1

1st Goalscorer Alexander Arnold at 33/1 (or if you rather, anytime at 12/1)

Half Time / Full time Liverpool / Draw at 13/1
