Not quite my normal pre series investments as it is chaos at the office and all spare time is going into the Tour de France at present!

But just in time for the start I will go for the following in the first test:
Morkel top SA bowler @ 4/1
Top Eng bat - Bairstow @ 11/2
Top SA bat - De Kock @ 6/1

Adding Elgar in the series market as SA top runscorer @ 4/1

Also battling with this series due to TdF Couch, nice call with Morkel in 1st test.

2nd test start Friday at Nottingham, preview here

Bets: Batsman to score a Fifty in 1st Innings, Root? (yes) at 11/10 WSB
Man Of The Match, Ben Stokes at 7/1

Thanks Chris!

Morkel actually came in the back door their a bit as Vern was on fire early doors. But the big one I was cursing about was Quinnie. He looked primed for taking the spoils but came up agonizingly short of what would have been a nice 6/1 payout

At present he is arguably the best bat in the team and 6/1 is just too big in my opinion.

Dodged a bullet on that SA first innings spread - wonder if the books have reloaded?

Wicket favours seam at the moment but with 4 of next 5 batsmen being left handed and Maharaj getting bounce and turn out of the foot marks Faf might give him some overs

England 1st inn under 369.5 @ 5/6

Will watch a little more before looking at running spreads

Thanks TML. The Morkel and innings runs were not too shoddy either

Need to see something of Roland Jones before considering a runs spread

Holy sh$t what a play Vann!! Only saw your punt now. Fantastic stuff (B)

Been seriously busy at work and any spare time has gone into the rugby so my first love is actually taking a back seat at the moment :(

Finally had a chance to watch some of the play the last hour or so. Jeez Proteas all at sea against some quality bowling. SA have been relying on Amla and De Kock (and Vern with the ball) for way too long and it was bound to bite us at some stage. Quinny one of our best at present but unfair to ask him to bat at 4 imho.

With them making it to the end of play today Vern still gets to bat. He was not at the ground this evening. I will still however take my position rather than the books. With you on Quinny - He either opens ala Gilchrest or he bats at 6.

Here's my kinda spread

England 2nd inn short @ 260

260 gives them a lead of 438 which is more then they need by plenty so the worst case is you get saved by the declaration at around a 450 lead. Nice - a downside of around 12 runs

Well you learn something new every day. 300 has never been chased down at the Oval but Root felt he had to set SA 492. And the Vann pays for another lesson in life.

Thanks - Unfortunately it gets worse. I shorted SA at 275 but watched the Ride London cycling instead and missed the closing at 52/4 ( probably around 180 ). Just have to hope SA tanks tomorrow

A little sloppiness there cost me around 60 - 70 units but on the up side Elgar now has 70 runs on Amla / 87 on Bavuma and 100+ on the rest. If his hand is OK Couch's 4/1 is looking good.

Will miss most of the test unless it goes to day 5. I think Morkel has been brilliant but has had absolutely no luck - hopefully this changes

MOM Morkel @ 20/1

Taken the 14/1 for the draw.

Hoping the boys can put in a gutsy performance today and survive without too many wickets going down. Weather forecast predicts quite a bit of rain tomorrow in Manchester.

Zero heart or grit shown by these guys. Not sure how CSA are going to get out of this hole the team are in.
