In the recent test match series between WI and Pakistan Chase was the leading WI run scorer by a country mile - 403 to 182 for Holder. In the recent England v SA series Ali topped the bowling for England and Maharaj was second for SA. Would have liked a Chase top batsmen and Bishoo top bowler for WI in the series bets but not being offered in SA.

First Test
Top WI batsmen Chase @ 5/1
Top WI bowler Bishoo @ 7/2

( Weather forecast seems reasonable for Birmingham and will probably take the 2/1 on offer for both teams to bat on day one should WI bat first)

Found odds at Sportsbet and taken for series

Top WI batsman Chase @ 9/2
Top WI bowler Bishoo @ 3/1 ( smaller stake in view of short odds )

Vann, I've looked at the forecast now again and we have 50% chance of rain tomorrow, Saturday 20%, Sunday 80% and Monday 60% (this also differs on the weather service you use). Think the result may be in jeopardy? In play draw currently at 15/2.

England are streets ahead of the Windies but do you think they can wrap the match up in say 3.5 days?

My first thought is - It's the Windies who knows?. I mean Pink ball game, known to go soft very fast and they leave out their no 1 spinner Bishoo I give up. For what its worth here is my take
In the recent series at home against Pakistan WI batted 6 times and were all out on each occasion. The stats from those innings are 1,467 runs in 560 overs ie an average of 245 in 93 overs. England are a far more attacking fielding side than Pakistan and I believe you can easily knock 10 plus overs off the 93. England will also score at a much faster rate ( probably something over 4 runs an over in the absence of Bishoo ). If the WI don't bowl England out I think they will bat for around 140 overs and they won't have to bat again. Two innings from the WI will probably not last longer than 165 overs.
So my best guess is not much over 300 overs could produce a result in this match. And remember it's only rain that will stop play not bad light.

Nice call on Gabriel Vann! (B)

Much improved boeling effort from Windies - should have had England out for less than 200. Reckon that 200 low bet has very little risk to it Vann.

That 200 has wiped out the Vanns spread account. Took a few units on WI at 6/1 to win around an hour ago to try and stem the bleeding.

Just took 2/1 WI, think that's value given the game situation. i would call this an even game at present

Sri Lanka under 264.5 runs seems a decent bet too

Well there you go. For the second time in Vanns long and illustrious punting career the 200 stop loss on test cricket has come into play
Just hope the WI can win from here.

Ouch! :pinch: I feel your pain Vann - really disn't see that coming AT ALL. Fortunately I only took a fixed odds play. Also lost a hit by taking Warner to score over 40 in the Aus v Bangla test

Clutching at straws here but the number of tests WI have lost after gaining a lead of over 150 runs in the first innings ( 116 test matches ) stands at NIL.

That being said... 28/10 for a WI win is pretty tempting especially if they can take a few early ENG wickets.

Or if you are in SA - an amazing 33/10 @ WSB

28/10 is at BetX which is crappy now that you've shown me WSB price. (I don't have an account with WSB.)

this stat must go way back - this team is bad
i'm also rooting for the windies (20/1 anti post) but can't see them chasing more than 130
why is the draw so short?

Probably because in Root's short captaincy spell so far he has tended to bat for too long and the weather tomorrow does not look great.

Morning forumites!

The Eng/WI match has been proper test match cricket with what seems to be a nail-biting finale if the WI batsmen can dig in on the 5th for a draw for chase down 317 for the win.

Odds are firmly in Eng's favour with a win at 7/20 & the draw at 33/10 and a WI win at 12/1 @ Betx.
Looks like they'll get in a full day of cricket with no rain forecast but a cloudy day in prospect. A swinging ball in overcast conditions scares me a bit.

Thoughts on the draw or WI win ?

After the most appalling catching display I have seen in many a year I think I am with the spread books on the result here. They have WI runs at 190-200 and, if I had not already lost my shirt on this match I would probably lean towards shorting the spread. Just two fixed odds for me

WI under 195.5 runs @ 17/10

Top run scorer Holder @ 8/1 ( match probably over by the time he gets to the crease - a few lusty blows for a 30-40 score should do it )
Would appreciate 16 from Chase for my performance bet

What a game!!!

Jeez Vann you can be glad you had already done your shirt or you would have been down to the bare necesities! :P

At least the Windies win came in so am sure that the pain was less than it could have been (B)

Unbelievable game of cricket and it had me completely bamboozled as well on the betting front but brilliant to watch!

I see the Oracle reports that in 20 years of rugby he has never seen anything like the Puma's v Bulls. Well I have to tell you that in 40 years of cricket I would never have believed a down and out WI in unfamiliar conditions could bounce back like that. The "few" units I took at 6/1 have redeemed almost 40% of my spread losses and I think I am the second happiest punter on the site after Kompos with his 20/1. And my Chase bet comes in. Happy Days :silly:
