Don't follow the ladies much in tennis but on the men's side there are fitness doubts over quite a few players - Djokovic/Wawrinka/Del Potro/Nadal etc. IF I am reading the draw correctly Goffin is seeded to play Federer in the quarters and Zverev in the semi's. He finally managed a win against Federer in the ATP Finals in November coming from a set down to win 2-1 which augers well for a 5 setter. Earlier this month he strolled past Zverev in straight sets 3 + 3 at the Hopman Cup. At the current odds I am going to take a unit or two on
Mens singles winner Goffin @ 22/1

This is betting on huge favourites in the first round.
Nadal should finish Burgos very quickly, as Burgos plays mainly in Challengers and even those on clay courts.

Kyrgios much better player, high on the rankings, gets huge crowd support.

Seppi is a skilled veteran playing against a wild card.

Kohlschreiber much more experienced than Nishioka.

Pablo Careno Busta a top 10 player, against a wild card.

Dolgo is a much higher rated player than Haider-Maurer, currently in the 400s.

Cilic is a Grand Slam champion, regularly high up in ATP tournaments, while YH Lu doesn't make an impact in big tournaments.

Multiple One

Nadal vs Burgos, Nadal -2.5 sets
Kyrgios vs Dutra Silva, Kyrgios win
Seppi vs Moutet, Seppi win
Kohlschreiber vs Nishioka, Kohly win
PC Busta vs Kubler, PCB win
Dolgopolov vs Haider-Maurer, Dolgo win
YH Lu vs Cilic, Cilic win

Total odds: 3.00

Multiple Two

Nadal vs Burgos, Nadal -2.5 sets
Kyrgios vs Dutra Silva, Kyrgios win
PC Busta vs Kubler, PCB win
Dolgopolov vs Haider-Maurer, Dolgo win
YH Lu vs Cilic, Cilic win

Total odds: 1.74

Nadal vs Estrella Burgos

Estrella Burgos is a clay court player who is present mainly in Challengers.
He does show up once a year in an ATP event, and that is in Quito on clay, which he has won for the last three consecutive years.

However, on the hard court of the AO, he is no match for Nadal, who has a perfect opponent for him to warm up and shake off any niggles that he may still have after his injury concerns.

Bet: Under 26.5 games @1.72 bet365.

Berdych vs De Minaur

Alex de Minaur has had a great start to the 2018 season. He reached the semifinal in Brisbane, beating Raonic and Johnson, and went one better the following week in Sydney, beating F Lopez and Paire, losing in the final to Medvedev.

Meanwhile Berdych has lost 5 of his last 7 matches on tour dating back to Cincinnati last year.
De Minaur has shown that he can handle big servers and in the great form that he is, and with the home support, he can give Berdych a hard time today.

Bet 1: Over 37.5 @1.90

Bet 2: De Minaur +4.5 @2.01

Bedene vs Federer

Federer comes into the tournament as the big favourite. He has no injury concerns to speak of. Just like last year, he made his way to Melbourne via the Hopman Cup and he will look for the double again.

With Fed in such great form, Bedene cannot really pose a challenge, so Fed should have a short day at the office.

Tiafoe vs Del Potro

Delpo is coming into this match a good form, as he reached the final in Auckland last week, beating Shapovalov, Khachanov and Ferrer on the way, all in straight sets, losing a tight final to Bautista-Agut in 3 sets.

Tiafoe played three matches before this tournament, losing two of them to Ebden and Baghdatis, before beating Kokkinakis in the World Tennis Challenge.

Given the big difference in the quality of the tennis played, Del Potro should win this match fairly comfortably.

Bet 1: Delpo -6 @1.78

Bet 2: Under 35.5 @1.85

Siniakova vs Svitolina

Svitolina is coming into this match in great form. She won the Brisbane tournament and in the first round at the Open she beat Jorovic in 2 sets.

Siniakova has had a good start to the season too, as she played the final in Shenzen, losing to Halep in 3 sets.

These two players met once before, at the US Open last year, with Svitolina winning in 3 sets.

Nadal vs Mayer

Nadal dispatched Estrella in the first round with 3 bread sticks, showing great form, complete domination of his opponent and no signs of injuries.

In their 4 previous encounters, Mayer won only one set, and that was last year on the courts of US Open, which are slower than in Melbourne, giving Mayer more opportunities.

That won't happen on the fast courts here, and based on the way he played two days ago, I can see another short day at the office for Nadal.

Kyrgios vs Troicki

Kyrgios is in great form. He won in Brisbane before coming to Melbourne and in the first round here he demolished Dutra Da Silva in less than 1.5 hours.

Troicki struggled to beat Bolt, ranked 188, in the first round, when he came back to win in 5 sets after losing the opening two sets.

These two players met last year in Montreal, with Kyrgios winning 6-1 6-2.

Kyrgios is on fire and it should be no different tonight.

Bet 1: Under 31.5 games @1.81

Dimitrov vs McDonald

Dimi had a great year in 2017, ending it with the World Tour Finals title.

At the beginning of the year he reached the semifinal in Brisbane, losing to Kyrgios, the eventual winner of the tournament.
In the first round here he made light work of Novak, winning in 3 easy sets.

McDonald is ranked 186, plays mainly in Challengers and got to this tournament from qualifications.

This should be another easy win for Dimi.

Gavrilova vs Mertens

When they met two weeks ago at Hopman Cup in Perth, Gavrilova took the first set in commanding fashion (6-2), with Mertens hardly being able to find an answer to Dasha's balls.

After that however, Dasha collapsed, she was unrecognizable and Mertens won 2-1.

Since then, Mertens went on to win in Hobart, while Gavrilova reached the semifinal in Sydney, losing to Australia's no. 1, A. Barty, in 3 sets.

While Mertens may have the momentum from her title win in Hobart, Gavrilova is not in bad form either, and with the crowd support she should be able to take her revenge.

Bet: Gavrilova @2.05.

Dimitrov vs Kyrgios

Two weeks ago Kyrgios beat Dimitrov in Brisbane 2-1, at 4 games difference.

Dimi has had some tough times in his last two matches, having to dig deep to emerge winner, especially against the unknown McDonald (3-2), when he needed 3.5 hours to get past a player ranked close to 200.

Kyrgios on the other hand won his matches in a clear and dominant fashion, except against Tsonga last round, but that is Tsonga and a hard match was expected.

He is in great form and a crowd favourite, and hoping that some fatigue will finally get to Dimitrov after his recent big efforts, I'm taking Kyrgios to win this in a clear fashion.

Bet: Kyrgios (-1.5) @1.82

Kerber vs Keys

Kerber won all her matches so far this year, that is 13 in a row, having played the Hopman Cup final, then won in Sydney.

Kerber has been dominant in her wins at Aus Open this year, and her win against Sharapova was nothing short of outstanding, finishing her in just about one hour.

Keys is having a good Aus Open tournament so far, having won all her matches, but her opposition so far has been nowhere near Kerber.

The H2H is lopsided in Kerber's favour, 6-1, with Keys lone win being on grass at Eastbourne 4 years ago.

Bet: Kerber -1.5 @1.80

Halep vs Pliskova

Halep played a marathon 3hr 47 min to beat Davis, and she had injury issues too.
However, two days later she dispatched Osaka in two quick sets, showing us that she's over her ankle issues, and ready to charge for the title here.
She got to number one in the world a few months ago and now she wants to win a Grand Slam.

This year she is on an 11 match winning run, with a title in Shenzen

Pliskova is in good form herself too, however the H2H is 6-1 to Halep, with the only Pliskova win being in a Fed Cup match 2 years ago.

Obviously, this is not a favourable match up for Pliskova, and with Halep showing so much grit and determination, I have to take her for the win.

Bet: Halep @1.85

Halep vs Kerber

Kerber is in great form, she won 14 matches in a row this season, losing only 3 sets.

H2H between these two players is 4-3 to Kerber.

Halep reached number one in October and she now wants to win a Grand Slam.
A few days ago she battled through injury and defeated Davis in 3hrs 47 min.
Her ankle didn't look good at all and she was spent.

However, since then she went on and simply dismissed off the court both Osaka and Pliskova, both in two quick sets.

Against Pliskova she was outstanding: Pliskova took a quick 3-0 lead in the first set and Halep then went on to win 9 games in a row, winning the match 6-3 6-2.

It looks like Halep is well prepared for this very difficult match.

Bet: Halep @2.26 Pinnacle.

Chung vs Federer

Chung won the Next Gen Finals a couple months ago.
He is a star on the rise and at this AO he is on fire.
He beat Zverev, world no. 4, ok, in a tight 3-2 match, but he bagelled him in the 5th.

He beat Djoko in straight sets, that is Djoko lost 0-3 to Chung.
Chung is in the semifinal of a Grand Slam. Nobody gets here just like that.
And yet, the bookies show no respect to him.

I think Chung will put up a good fight and stay close.

Halep vs Wozniacki

Woz beat Halep in their last couple of meetings, most recently in Singapore a couple months ago.

However, she had bad recent results against Kerber too, and she has just eliminated Kerber.

Her motivation is much bigger now than 2 months ago.
Her morale...

Past results may be a psychological burden, but psychologically Halep is very strong now.

Halep is better and stronger now.

She is stronger than at last year's French Open when she lost the final with a whimper, her spirit once down, it just dug deeper into the ground.

Just look at the match vs Kerber. Kerber would have been a worthy AO winner too.
How Halep snatched the match back from her, and Kerber is a good comparison to Woz.

The grit and determination that Halep has shown, the way she won her matches, even through injury and huge efforts, when many were ready to see Osaka beat her, and finally her composure against Kerber (herself no less worthy than Woz)...

Halep finally looks ready.
