The 6 Nations got off to a cracking start last week and here are the fixtures with early handicaps and my early thoughts

Ireland -32.5 v Italy - Ireland will be looking for a big win but despite the big loss to England I was actually quite impressed with Italy.

England -11.5 v Wales - I am thinking this could be a close game, possibly England 1-12

Scotland -5.5 v France - tough one, from what I saw last week France not without a chance here

The Kings and Cheetahs are both in Pro 14 action this weekend.

It's silly season in the Pro 14. I'm all over the Dragons this weekend. As Southpaw rightly points out they're not that badly affected by the 6 Nations at all and Glasgow are absolutely decimated.

Agree with your summation of the Ireland Italy game. As an Irish man Ireland were pretty average on Saturday(albeit in pretty awful conditions). Italy were a little unlucky to ship as many points as they did but for them to be doing that it this early stage in the competition wold worry me a little from their perspective(even if it was arguably the best side in the competition). Don't underestimate the effect a day less rest also takes on the body in this competition. I think the bookies have set a pretty shrewd handicap. The weather is meant to be wet enough and the atmosphere in the Aviva for 2 o'clock kick offs can be pretty tame for the first half hour or so. I'd prob go for Italy +31 if I had to but will decide closer to the time.

I think England could smash Wales. Don't fooled by the score against Scotland. They're not nearly as good as that.

Finally I'm going to go with Scotland to beat France by more than 5.

I reckon Chiefs are worth a shot outright. Arguably a stronger squad than last year whilst most other teams are sending weaker squads. Saders/Canes much weaker, Highlanders decent forwards but not too much in the backline, Blues actually look ok but hard to take them seriously with 42 year old Carlos Spencer as their only 10. Aus teams look a joke. Pau and Panasonic actually decent longshots, Panasonic did really well last year and Pau have a lot of stars.

Chiefs to me clearly have the most dangerous backline though.

TTT/McKenzie(Marty)/Ngatai/TNW/Pulu/Stevenson/Alaimalo to choose from. Brought a strong group of loose forwards too, front row nothing special but no weaker than last year.

For those interested in the Pro 14 games I've seen the Leinster team and it is not exceptionally strong. The play Edinburgh in Scotland this Friday. They are -8 with Paddy Power book makers at present but I could actually see Edinburgh winning the game. They are not nearly as affected as leinster with the 6 nations. I'm going to put a punt on Edinburgh +8 at the very least

Leinster team is 1.Dooley 2. Strauss 3. Bent. 4. Moloney. 5. Fardy 6. Connors 7. Josh Murphy 8. Deegan 9. Gibson-Park 10. Byrne 11. Daly 12. Reid 13. Nacewa 14. O'Loughlin 15. Dave Kearney

Sadly working Friday and Saturday and will be watching from a distance.
I def fancy another good showing from France , they have a very good record against Scotland besides last year. If there are not too many injuries and not too many changes I fancy them to go very close if not win. That would mean Scotland would be gone and all expectations gone up in smoke. I expect Scotland to come out smoking but feel France could squeeze the life outa them.

Pro 14 and Aviva looks harder and team selections so important , hoping we can get the value once they're announced and before the books change their prices accordingly.

Put a double on earlier this week, Ireland -28 into Wales +12.

I see the lrish line has drifted out to -34 or -35 now.
Reminds me of similar scenario this time last year, when they lost to Scotland in the first game up.
They then destroyed the Italians in Rome the following weekend 10 - 63.
This time round they are at home.
I see the weather forecast doesn't look too flash, which given their lacklustre attack last week in the wet is perhaps a mild concern.

Have had a decent strike at the Wales plus also. Yes, completely different class of opposition from last week, but their recent record in Twickenham isn't too bad. Would be a surprise if they won (although I have had a small stab at Wales 1-12 @ 6) but fully expecting the game to be close.

According to the Irish Indo this is the likely team for Saturday;

Possible Ireland team v Italy: R Kearney; K Earls, R Henshaw, B Aki, J Stockdale; J Sexton, C Murray; J McGrath, R Best (capt), T Furlong; I Henderson, D Toner; P O'Mahony, D Leavy, J Conan. Replacements: S Cronin/R Herring, C Healy, A Porter, Q Roux, CJ Stander, K Marmion, J Carbery, J Larmour.

I genuinely think that the handicap is too high considering it is meant to be wet. There are 4 changes made in the pack. If it's drifted to +34 or 35 then I'd happily take that punt.
I'd also take Italy +15 upwards 1st half if i could get that. Apparently they conceded 50% of all 6 nations points scored in the competition in their second halves last year.

I think the French will beat the Scots the weekend. Bet of the weekend has gotta be England -6 second half and kings plus 32. Ulster is missing a few players playing for Ireland. England selected a strong bench which they will bring on after 60 minutes. Let’s see how the weekend turns out. I think in the pro 14 and premiership you will see a few upsets starting with Northampton beating bath and then Edinburgh beating Leinster.

As a proud Welshman..i'm afraid that England will cover the handicap of 11.5...why.....well they can take out two potential 'irritants' this weekend and leave space and time for the showdown with Ireland..... Scotland out of the equation..Wales out of the equation......us versus ireland with no pressure for weeks

Just done a 20 mile training run past England team hotel and then about 10 miles within Twickenham and the last hour was foul. Freezing cold wind and some very light swirling rain.

From a neutral point of view I've really enjoyed the England Wales game, Anscombe has been real quality. One thing though, I really hope the video referee has to answer for his decision in the first half, there is no excuse for that and really shouldn't be involved in professional games again.

These women have no coordination, they butcher our great game. Maybe they should change the rules for them so they can just throw the ball forward willy-nilly. It's easy to sound sexist when talking about this but I would urge anyone to steer clear of punting on the women's game. It's infuriatingly shit.

I took a hammering yesterday going Italy under 1.5 tries and also over 41.5 in England game - as it happened the weather forecast I saw for Dublin on the Friday was well off the mark and the poor conditions I was expecting didn't materialize

Based on recent history the u42.5 looks good in Scotland v France but will get an accurate view of conditions before getting involved.
