Chiefs +5.5 @ 9/10 surely the standout cap? Welcome back 3 of their top players, facing a Canes side that's won 1 of last 5, and the Canes forwards are looking a bit too vulnerable of late.

That's my main early play.

Just a question for the semifinals, will the highest ranked qualifying team play the lowest ranked qualifying team and number two ranked play number 3 ranked?

for example if the Crusaders, Lions, Highlanders & Hurricanes win the semifinals would be:

Crusaders (1) v Highlanders (6)
Lions (2) v Hurricanes (4)

as opposed to if the Crusaders, Lions, Waratahs & Chiefs win

Crusaders (1) v Chiefs (5)
Lions (2) v Waratahs (3)

As I understand it (from a couple of websites)

Winner QF1 (Cru v Sharks) v winner QF2 (Hur v Chiefs)
Winner QF 3 (Lions v Jags) v winner QF4 (War v Highlanders)

If this is the case, you might have watered down final.

If this is the case Pierrebal then how does the home advantage work? I know there is almost zero chance of it happening but if Sharks beat the Crusaders they surely remain the lowest qualifying team and as such can't have a home semi...

Would the semifinal not then be a home game for the winner of the Hurricanes v Chiefs game?

Would make the travel a lot less for the sharks as they are already in NZ....then a final at Ellis...:silly:

Yes but again Cettas - if the Jags beat the Lions they surely do not then get to host a semi against one of the Kiwi teams who qualified above them? I am with you that they have to revert to the original qualified position after the regular season games.

Yes Pierrebal, the semi is hosted by the higher ranked team i.e. Based on their 1-8 ranking positions.
(So, it's impossible for either the 7th or 8th placed Jags or Sharks to host).

So on that reduced travel basis, lump on the Sharks

My early picks and planning a pincer attack this weekend.

Friday .

My early fancy was for the Chiefs on the plus and I'm still confident . Yes, the Cane's might be regaining form at the right moment but they are certainly vulnerable . I just can't shake those three losses in a row and I do feel if the Chiefs can get into a lead there will be a lot of doubt in the Cane's camp.

Medium bet on the best plus for me.

The Crusaders handicap looks well priced . The Sharks could prove dangerous if the passes stick as they look to play with very little pressure on their shoulders . However the Crusaders do look ruthless and I can imagine a strong defensive effort by the home team.

Medium bet on the Sharks points and will be going under at 14-15 points.

Next up I really like the Waratahs this weekend, I really feel they had one eye on this weekend when beaten by the Brumbies last weekend , possibly not a bad result when one remembers that they pushed the Chiefs away from hoem the week before.

They're decent at home while the Highlanders have been vulnerable , i make it my bet of the weekend.

Waratahs on the best plus , medium to high strike.

Finally the Lions host the Jag's . The Lions have proved once again that they are a decent team still and although there were some wobbles during the season they seem to have put that behind them.

The Jag's looked in second gear last Saturday in Durban and can still prove very dangerous , they have the abilty to score points which could trouble the Handicap , however I feel the Lions will look to punish them up front and as a result I feel the opportunities will be there to frustrate and punish the Jag's for any defensive errors.

Medium strike on the best Lions minus.

Can't wait for the weekend .

Chiefs to score a penalty before 33"30 is my first call for tomorrow
They did not attempt any last week but were looking at a bonus try win and this is a play-off game where every points count. Not a huge stake as if Canes take a comfortable lead quickly, Chiefs would go for tries only.

MrMeeseeks86, I tried to place a bet on the lions vs bulls game last week, and was told that I have been excluded from betting on Rugby union. After a mail or 2 they said that I have been excluded from rugby union due to me being part of the a rugby club (which is not true) so their risk department decided to impose a limit of R 0 on all rugby union bets. Yet I could still bet on the Fifa World Cup.

Chiefs +5.5 been my main bet from beginning week, line hasn’t moved but like BG didn’t expect it to shorten given Canes home adv. I just think this is going to be a really tight game and Mackems preview pick looks a nice bet too.

My next bet will be Highlanders 1-12 @ 18/10. I cant have the Tahs with no Hooper. They got killed at breakdown last week and Highlanders have picked a loose trio to target this area. And more pace in Highlanders backline for the heavy Tahs backs to deal with.

Playoff game, take the 3 points when on offer early:

Time of first penalty before 19min

Agree it is shaping up as a close game but home advantage is key :

Canes 1-12 @ 2.75

ATS B Barrett @ 2.90

Also for anyone wondering about the weather, we had some very brief light rain earlier this afternoon but sky is pretty clear now, don't think we should get anymore this evening. I first looked at the total of 47.5 and thought the over was worth a go but looking at the history of games between these teams not that many have been over that

What a game. Do we really think that we can compete with these guys on a provincial, nevermind national level? Its time to revert back to a smaller competition, I'm all over a return to s10 and try attempt a strength vs strength format again. So as a starter 4 NZ teams, 3 Aus and 3 SA. Get rid of the Pumas and Wolves.

As you go through life it’s a long, long road. There’ll be joys and sorrows too

Strange day for me yesterday and ended up losing as my under bet was the bigger of my two bets, really didn't see a lot of points there and was blown away by the two early tries within 7 min or so.

As mentioned earlier in the week I expected Sharks points 14-15 , i've therefore emptied the bank on under 19.5 . Will also follow tentatively on under 60,5 as I have been catching the totals badly with regard the Kiwi sides.

Funking for a 36-8 scoreline
