At the back of a record breaking season, Man City have rightfully been installed as favourites for the EPL title but I'll rather dabble in the lottery than entertain the odds being offered as I certainly expect a 'correction' on that points tally. Spurs will once again pose a threat but I don't think that squad has been bolstered enough to last the distance. Mourinho seems to be entering his typical 3rd season syndrome period (and this meltdown promises to be a special one - no pun intended). Arsenal have hired a Europa League specialist and I can see them going all out to land that trophy.

Now I think we can all agree that "this year, is our year" but Jurgen Klopp's red army deserve their own thread about how super magnificent they will be this season...I couldn't resist helping myself to some 5/1 two weeks ago and I see they're now trading at around 4/1 in most places.

But at 12/1 with most bookies, it's the team from west London that has peaked my interest. While they'll be plying their trade in the Europa League, I simply do not see Chelsea even being half-arsed about this competition. Roman Abramovich will not want to see his team miss out on Champions League football two seasons in a row and in Maurizio Sarri, he's got exactly the right man who will happily focus on the league at the expense of every other competition. While Eden Hazard seems to have had his head turned by Real Madrid, the latest reports from Spain suggest Madrid have given up the chase and Chelsea are doing all they can to entice him to stay as well. The only area of concern would be the goalkeeping situation but I think Chelsea will rather have Thibaut Courtois run down his contract than let him leave without a suitable replacement in place. This is a team still full of championship winning players and I expect Sarri to fire them up for the challenge - he came pretty close to toppling Juventus last season! The value offered by the Blues at these odds (13.5/1 at Sportingbet and 13/1 at BetX) cannot be sniffed at.

Sounds good Mgqwesi, let's keep the Cup amongst the blue teams and yes, that price of 12/1 is worthwhile on Chelsea.
Last year I saw it race-over after first 6 games for City at even money.Liverpool focused on City and although crushed in the first game came back and worked City over.
Thing is they have to win all those minor away games as well as a few big derbies to keep the other teams in top five out of running

Top stuff Mgqwesi thanks man.

I can see why Chelsea would appeal, no Champions League a huge advantage and they will surely prioritize the league title. Man City and Liverpool for the trifecta.

Had a look at the Absa Premiership in South Africa ..

Had Sundowns up right until publishing but Pirates have been growing on me all day, Bucs at 7/2 probably one for multiples rather than outright single. Wits and Supersport overpriced at 25/1 but haven't seen an each way book.

Spot on there with Pirates Mackem, I've also been mulling over them a bit. The thing to note is that their CAF engagements will only commence in the new year (Sundowns are currently involved, hopefully they go even further). In Milutin Sredojević, Pirates have a coach who seems to know how to plot his way to championship triumphs. While we're not talking major African leagues here, the man has managed to amass 8 league titles in 3 different countries. In 2016 he topped that off by taking Uganda to an AFCON tournament for the 1st time in 38 years!

Having taken charge with only a week before the league kicked off last season, he did a very commendable job to come 2nd. A full preseason and some good reinforcements behind him, I expect Micho to inspire Pirates to greater things this season. So thanks Mackem, you've managed to convince me to pull the trigger on the Buccaneers. Sunbet have been generous enough to offer 5/1!

Thanks Mgqwesi, glad we on the same page with Pirates, I rate the coach highly as well. I wasn't sure when they would start with CAF competition but if in contention for the league at that time I think domestic title will be priority.

Hadn't seen the 5/1, good spot

Leeds at 12/1 for the Championship, my call. Some proper buys during the transfer period, and if they gel its going to get ugly. The challenge will be going through less than 6 managers in a season. I can't have Stoke with that Judas Rowett, hope he gets what he deserves and is sacked before November.

Villa to be relegated at 20/1 my obligatory bet. Six fingered retards deserve to go down. SOTV

A drinking buddy returned from the land of pound sterling this week and we spent an evening overdosing on beer priced in rands. A cousin of his - a long time Portsmouth fan - is convinced Portsmouth will win England League 1. I like Kenny Jackett as a lower league manager (spent his career playing for that fine club Watford) and the books seemed to have priced up the league on the basis that Sunderland cannot get any worse so they must win it. I doubt whether Chris sees it this way - I certainly don't. I'm not going long term on the win but am taking a couple of units on
England League 1
To be promoted Portsmouth @ 4/1

Yo Vann, Sunderland in League 1 this is good question bru. On the one hand I'm thinking the down to earth approach of new owners which has seen 22k season tickets sold and a crowd of 30k expected on Saturday v Charlton is hard to argue with but there are still at least 3 mercenaries on the books which are holding the club back.

Sunderland have been here once before, under Dennis Smith, a similar appointment to Jack Ross at the time, they took a few weeks to adapt and then swept clear, I was following them home and away pretty much every game in those days, when they got the momentum they were plainly in the wrong division and it was a fantastic time to follow Sunderland but having such huge support and expectation can work for or against.

I think Sunderland might get it right but your Pompey promotion pick is probably at least on a par right now and possibly better value

Going under the knife on Friday so will miss the first 7 EPL games - Damn
TOP 10 at Sunbet
Burnley finished 7th last season - 10 points clear of the 11th placed side. They also have Wood back and fully fit. Except for Everton and West Ham I have not seen any sides buying a load of quality players. So first up
Top 10 finish Burnley @ 3/1 3 units
BEST OF THE REST at Sunbet
Sunbet are offering - To win excluding ManC/ManU/Liv/Chels/Arsen/Spurs.
Everton finished 8th last season with only Burnley of the usual top 6 ahead of them. Silva has certainly spent some money in the off season and Tosun is starting to look like a striker. Fancy the looks of this
Best of the rest Everton @ 11/4 2 units
STRAIGHT FORECAST at Sportingbet
Agree with Mgqwesi that Liverpool have a shot this season with the buys Klopp has made but the 4/1 ( or 5/1 at Sportingbet ) is a little skinny. I don't see Man City finishing outside the top 2 so am taking the Liverpool win on the basis of exact finishing position in the EPL
1) Liverpool 2) Man City @ 8/1 at Sportingbet 1 unit
