Ok lads, after a week off there is loads of rugby to look forward to

The Rugby Champs starts on Saturday in Australia
Handicaps
Australia +11.5 v New Zealand
I have not seen a handicap for Boks v Argentina but reckon it will be
SA -14.5 v Argentina

Currie Cup
Free State v Bulls
Pumas v Griquas

I am not going to have a go at handicapping as need to do some research on this first but any thoughts welcome

The Mitre 10 Cup also gets going this week. Hopefully we can get some input from our Kiwi mates and if any of you from All Black territory are keen to do a You Tube preview for week 1 then shout.

All Blacks to win all 6 games @ 5/6 - poor value or a solid punt?

Only game i see as a risk is vs Boks in Pretoria. Probably a big home crowd, and i expect title already wrapped up so may not be same motivation for AB's. Boks came close last season, better coach this time around.

It's a tough one...the 5/6 on the All Blacks...precisely for the reasons you give. I have seen a Outright market without New Zealand.....South Africa are 6/5..(Aussies Evens)...and that made me stand to attention. Will probably play that instead..
If the All Blacks beat Australia home and away in the 1st two matches, and the Boks beat Argentina home and away in the 1st 2 matches then you can have a saver on the Aussies at that point. It does set up nicely...and the Aussies play Argentina away in the last match, and that's not a gimme....but maybe it's not that simple as we all know...

Poor value for me
NZ @ 1.28 this week end which means they would roughly the same in SA (lets say 1.25) and probably 1.10 in Argentina.
The three home games will be around 1.08 against SA and AUS and 1.03 against Argentina
Combine all of them and that gives you approx. 2.10 so 1.8 is clearly a poor value

Agree it's not good value on price, but I think it is a solid bet and you'll be able to take some cover before the Loftus game if you want to.

Not to fazed about the Rugby Championship. I'm so excited about the Currie Cup starting. Can't wait!

Lining up what I believe is a very solid bet in the Mitre10 Cup, but need to see teams first before committing.

I don't know anywhere near enough on Mitre10 Cup but early view based on just squads, the Tasman +8.5 appeals.

Solid bet maybe but clearly not value
If you think of taking such bet, as I explained, put lets say a ground on the first game and keep doing that on the 6 games and you would end up with a difference at the end that could be close to 300 quid (1.8K v 2.1K) which represent 30% of your initial stake – quite a difference I reckon.
On top of it, you can always skip a game or play on the caps, do in-play and even cashout live.

Indeed SP – Canterbury will be without Owen Franks, Ryan Crotty, Joe Moody, Richie Mo'unga, Codie Taylor, Luke Whitelock, Sam Whitelock while Tasman has Shannon Frizell, Liam Squire and Tim Perry out so the cap is tempting but last year scores are stopping me to punt anything until I have the squads.

North Harbour: 1.Nic Mayhew, 2.James Parsons (captain), 3.Sione Mafileo, 4.Gerard Cowley-Tuioti, 5.Ben Nee-Nee, 6.Glenn Preston, 7.Dillon Hunt, 8.Murphy Taramai, 9.Bryn Hall, 10.Bryn Gatland, 11.Tevita Li, 12.Harrison Groundwater, 13.James Dargaville, 14.Matt Duffie, 15.Shaun Stevenson.

Substitutes: 16.Loteru Tolai, 17.Mike Tamoaieta, 18.Chris Eves, 19.Jacob Pierce, 20.Sione Teu, 21.Gjaltema Lewis, 22.Loketi Manu, 23.Mark Telea.

I like this NH team – a good front 8 with some super rugby experience – Hall + Gatland was an interesting combination last year and with a similar backline, it can be interesting – just a ? on Dargaville – if anybody has some info on him please.

Northland Team:
1. Ross Wright , 2. Matt Moulds , 3. Jack Straker , 4. Tom Robinson , 5. Josh Goodhue , 6. Murray Douglas , 7. Kara Pryor , 8. Jaycob Matiu , 9. Sam Nock ,
10. Jack Debreczeni , 11. Rene Ranger , 12. Blake Hohaia , 13. Tamati Tua , 14. Jordan Hyland , 15. Matty Wright
Replacements:
16. Jordan Olsen , 17. Isileli Tu'ungafasi , 18. Ropate Rinakama , 19. Kane Jacobson , 20. Matt Matich , 21. Jono Kitto , 22. Myles Throughgood , 23. Scott Gregory

Northland team has been announced. The front 8 is similar to last year with only Starker as a debutant and Robinson who was injured last year. Debreczeni could bring some experience but bench seems weak with 5 debutants.

I will wait for all the odds to be out but I have already few bet in minds that I will share later on today.

Hi Bradie

Is that not the Dargaville from the Brumbies, Thought he was a wing and wasn't the worse around I thought, not sure of him at 13 though.

Not sure if that helps at all.

Guys, is it just me ? Or: given the Lions performance against a predominantly AB team in the finals in NZ, add: Rassie to Swys, Etsebeth, Polard, Pieter-Stef, Beast etc. etc. Also, the overwhelming favorites title the ABs hold, am I alone in thinking we can shock everyone by winning this Championship ? If so, Sunbet is offering NZ 3 games 25/1, SA to win 5 @ 16/1, and all 6 @ 200/1. Maybe a tenner on each ? If Duane was there, I'd feel lots better for our chances, but we must have a chance, no ?

Not that Hansen will allow complacency, but there’s a fair bit of smugness around Bauden, TJ, and a few of the others. I’m with Oracle on the Ozzie’s improvement and chances in Sydney, and if they upset the Ab’s applecart on Saturday: then it’s confusion time and game on against them.
With the likes of our team additions – top top guys: Faf, Willie, Rassie’s wiliness, Swys concentrating on attack with decent players: we WILL beat the Pumas twice, and have a better than even chance of beating Ozz twice too.
That leaves an AB team fighting to retain the Bledisloe cup, ripe for us to pluck. I’m quite excited at the prospect, this isn’t Meyer or the other two blokes (who were such almighty cock-ups that I can’t even remember their names), Rassie’s a Master, up there with Mallet, and Swys is no mug either.
Saturday will tell us a lot.
Go Bokke.

I don't mind the low profile hopefully it'll bring about more mistakes on the bookies' side.

Wow, only when you look at the team sheet do you realise the holes left in the Cheetahs team after last season's player exodus. I don't think the result is as clear cut.

It's Dan Jones...young but a pretty decent ref....and lets face it it could have been Nigel Owens...then it would have been all about him and not the rugby...

Shaft, I hear you on the Cheetahs and I think they might struggle more than last year in the Pro14, but Bulls look very light up front and I'm all over tge Cheetahs and Pumas. Have backed Pumas -5, Cheetahs 9/10 and the double. Pumas cap should be at least double the current cap.

Have also backed Tasman +8.5 at 9/10, Tasman 28/10 to win the game, Tasman/Tasman ht/ft at 4.25/1 and Tasman by more than 14 at 28/1.

Pumas v Griqs is Friday game isn't it? think it was originally planned for Saturday but Supersport listing it as Friday. Confusion pretty much sums up the build up to this tournament.

Anyhow, here's the preview ....

Also not sure of Nelspruit kick off time, Supersport have 5pm, BetX have post match market to close at 14:05

kick off 5pm according to Pumas facebook - gates open at 2pm for anyone going to the game

Strange if it's at 17:00 as that is the same time as the Boks vs Argentina. I reckon kickoff in Nelspruit will be at 14:00

Bok game on Saturday, Currie Cup games on Friday. Pumas @ 5pm, cheetahs @7pm

Not going to get involved in too much of the Friday rugby as will be travelling, but happy to see the Tasman cap coming in a bit. Took the +8.5 earlier in week, looking out for team news tonight and might take some more of the shorter odds of same line with Sunbet.

Have taken Harbour -10.5 at 9/10. That Harbour team looks very strong.

Currie cup starts tommorow and its live on Sky in England. Yet bet365 have no sign of it on their site. But they do have Queensland premier and french div 2. This is ridiculous. They dont see it as a proper rugby competition. Or they take so few bets on it, its not worth their time. Why are Sky bothering to show it I wonder. Id love to see the vewiing figures. Probably just ten of us.

The build up here is almost as bad - Couch made the comment on last nights show that we would be lucky to get any points lines

One small bet on the Tasman game
I expect (hope) for a more entertaining game and I kinda like the Tasman back line so going with:
Tasman over 1.5 tries HT @2.20

@ henryscat : this is typical from bet365 but once live, you will have all the odds possible and both game are scheduled.
I reckon bet365 is waiting for external information before making any move as the traders have no clue on this competition but you might see the game around lunch time available with points, tries, caps,...

Correct. Very few bookies will take the risk of being market leader when it comes to Currie Cup. Too many ways for them to take a hiding.

hanrick wrote: Shaft, I hear you on the Cheetahs and I think they might struggle more than last year in the Pro14, but Bulls look very light up front and I'm all over tge Cheetahs and Pumas.

Have added Tasman over 11.5 1st half points at 5/6. Go the Mako!
