Skimmed though the card other features. Will fill in gaps on other minor races but here’s my headlines on the main supporting contents:

R1
STRAWBERRY WINE @ 7/1 ew. Just glancing her strong formlines throws up likes of Front and Centre, Silvanos Pride, Temple Graffin. Has a handy weight a a decent draw for first time in a while.

R2
BASILIUS 5/1 ew. With coil in this one, rarely runs a poor race and Yeni knows him very well.

R3 Betting World 2200:
July consolation race has some really good sorts but a few at top of betting, despite having been racing in quality fields, have been fairly well held. I’m looking for an upset here and Alec Laird raiding with just 1 runner on the day catches my eye. He has current championship leader Muzi Yeni on board and this filly BIZE (33/1 ew), she has a plum draw, 52.5kg on her back and has proven stamina.

R4 Gold Vase:
A race that can produce upsets as no real dominant stayers in SA. I like to here at opposite ends of betting. SUNSHINE SILK @ 4/1, top class filly who won the Gold Bowl @ Turffontein and comes down after a prep run over the 1400m. She stays all day and looks well treated at weights. MULTI-GOLD @ 33/1 could be the surprise package. Solid PE form and gets a more experienced jock than recent outings with just 51.5kg to lump over the marathon trip.

R5 Golden Slipper:
WHAT YOU ARE @ 13/1 ew catches my eye. I watched replay of her run behind Miss Florida, she was heavily baulked for last 300m, comments in formguides don’t mention this as severe. She could have won, and did exactly that next time out with an easy win over the Greyville course/distance. A kind draw on the tight 1400m is crucial and she gets just that.

R6 Golden Horseshoe:
POINCIANA 16/1 ew looks like a good sort in the making. Trainer mentioned in interview on his win that this race was always his target and on breeding he’s crying out for the trip. Very comfortable win last time out and while others are a bit more tested I’ll take my chances in a bigger price in a race where you simply don’t want to be backing anything too short.

R7 Durban July:
See preview.
TWIST OF FATE 16/1 ew main bet.
Small e/w RETURN FLIGHT and DIVINE ODYSSEY 66/1

R8
CAPTAIN OF TORTUGA 16/1 ew. Feels big, 1st run for Azzie but brought all way down for KZN? Says something for me, plus big name owners and very low mass to carry.

R9 Garden Province (best value bet):
She won well for me last time out and I’ll stick with CELTIC SEA @ 12/1. She was back to her very best last time out over shorter but I don’t think the mile is a problem, Tarry will have her prepped for this distance and although the 4yr olds carry just 1kg more she has a bit of quality and certainly her place odds are more attractive to me than evens on Oh Susanna win.

R10 No strong feel but BABYSHOOZ ran on from an absolute mile back on debut and could be anything. 20/1.

R11 Also really no strong fancy but Drier pops up on these big days and CROWN AND COUNTRY 15/1 ew worth a tickle.

R12 SHOGUN 11/2, likes this course and has taken to KZN well since relocating. Old boy with a good draw.

I have backed Legal Eagle to win a big amount but think that my 1st six fixed places will result in a small profit. I am now all over Do It Again who was always my second choice. I watched a panel discussion with Justin Snaith on, and I have never ever seen such confidence about a runner from a trainer. That includes Michael Azzie at his brilliant best, and for those that follow racing, you will understand the comment.

Do it again to do it again for me.

As you go through life it’s a long, long road. There’ll be joys and sorrows too

My favourite day of the year , just a pity I'm not back in SA .

Wonderful write up South , first class !!

Sadly my betting might not be up to date as I have limited access to sites today.

Race 1 Made In Hollywood should show tremendous improvement , widesh draw but don't think it makes a huge deal on the poly , 7/1 eachway will be my start to the day. Might be an omen too with the latest Hollywood sponsership.

Race 2. Basiliuis 6/1 ran a cracker last time out , should be thereabouts , my other fancy Ishana my other fancy around 12/1 .

Race 3 . Run Red is my roughie in this race , 20/1 eachway in a very tough race , another old fiance is Bize , a filly at 33/1 so will be going wide in my exotics !!

Race 4 . I have followed Strathdon for a while now to my detriment , I'll leave him out now at my peril !! Sunshine Silk has been a revelation of late and doesn't mind taking on the boys whatsoever and like South make her one to beat at 4/1 , other fancies are Walter Smoothie 7/1 , Major Return at 16/1 and pacific Chestnut at 20/1.

Race 5 . Cavivar mist unlucky last time out but jumps from a tough draw , Vandah's Spirit my roughie at 16/1 and also like South's What u Are and the Spies stable.

Race 6 . Master Of Illusion should improve plenty and like the 20/1 on offer eachway , going to include all the Spies runners in exotics as he's a class act in producing upsets .

Race 7. The big one !! Do feel the race is quite open , I'm going to oppose the fav and leaning towards Rainbow Bridge as my first choice albeit he comes with doubt , he likes to pull and the weight could stop him , 7/1. Made to Conquer my roughie at 20/1, has been going along quietly and if ridden like last year could go close .

Race 8 . Thanksgiving one of my better bets , well drawn and I think this a very decent horse , climbing into the 8/1 as eachway .

Race 9 . Lovely race , Oh Susanna looks a little short for me , South's Celtic Sea a big runner , my first selection though is Front and Centre at 5/2 .

Race 10. African Warrior looks tough to beat , Baby Shoes could improve alot at 25/1 coming from a strong stable, Wave will appreciate the trip at 4/1.

Race 11. Van Halen the class act here but shoulders top weight and has a tough draw, hehe Boy keeps improving 7/1, Mithical Bolt my narrow first choice at 20/1 also Affranchi at 33/1.

Race 12. Tough end to the day , hope I'm rolling in a few hefty exotics , I do however like Kapen Pride, lightly raced and has some potential 5/1 .

Play Well and hope it's profitable

Hey guys,

Thanks for the write ups and preview guys. I think I will be taking a PA with all our selections to hopefully win something.

An awesome days racing ahead of us and a day I always get to involved in.

Race 1 – Accidental Tourist @ 25/1
Favorite is Township Melody and she won same race last year with AT second, both from wide draws. But since that race AT has dropped in the ratings and there is a 9kg swing. Yes AT hasn’t been great in last couple but looks like she could be a Poly course specialist. Her Course and Distance record is impressive 11 runs for 3 wins and 5 places. Yes has wide draw but with scratchings should be not further out than last year, and at that price worth a go.

Race 2 – Filippo@ 12/1
Seems better over shortest distance and seems to enjoy the Poly. One of my fav Jocks in Bernard and worth a go at these odds.

Race 3 – Charles @ 6/1
Won over distance and last run really good. For me can’t have 2 fav’s. (Wait for egg to splatter) I also like a bit of Silver God @ 33/1. Old favorite of mine who hasn’t produced but breed for the distance I think if not shown yet. Hoping a late bloomer

Race 4 – Mangrove @ 50/1

Race 5 – Royal Lilly @ 33/1.
Good last run over distance against some decent sorts going down by less than a head. Also wasn’t disgraced against Miss Florida. Will do swingers with Coil and Souths, hoping for a surprise.

Race 6 – Loosen your tie @ 20/1

Race 7 – Return Flight @ 50/1 & Lady in Black @ 60/1
As South says for Return and Lady in Black is for me on a line through Oh Susanna. If Oh Susanna was running she would probably be in single digits to low teens. Now Lady in Black ran under a length to OS and then with the huge weight turn around to Do it Again, should be close come the end.

Out of the Fav’s I like DIA and RB. So will probably do a exacta and swinger with the above 2.

Also in case Fav doesn’t like course and crowds, will take some 140/1 for it to run last. Hope not but could see it happening and been pulled out.

Race 8 – Social Order @ 20/1
I was all over him in previous years and hoping for a return to form like Jason highlighted.

Race 9 – Santa Clara @ 15/2
This is my best bet for the day, and will be taking a double with Charles. Oh Susana never won over distance, and Santa Clara beat Front & Centre by 2.5 lengths last time over C & D. Yes F&C will have come on but think this is a class filly.

Race 10 – Sapphire Rock @ 33/1
Was a really last good run behind What you are last time and as Coil has said, Spies 2 year olds are always ready.

Race 11 – Hey Boy @ 8/1
With Coil here and will be taking boxed Trifecta with 2 best rated

Race 12 – Collabro @ 14/1
Wide draw but good last couple of runs. C & D record hasn’t missed the box.

Enjoy the racing

Great thoughts lads. I've updated my 1st post to include remaining other races, makes it easy to see where all my money is disappearing!

Break a leg tomorrow.

Well done lads and on the last RB.

Really sorry for all connected to Hawwaam and his backers, terrible luck to be withdrawn like that and did take away a bit of the sparkle.

But Do It Again fought like a champ, can see how this horse wanted to win turning for home.

Well done guys yesterday. Good calls by all.

For me was a blood bath, the 3 5ths killed me.

Onto Turffontein today, where some nice sorts are stepping out again.

Race 2 - Zodiac Princess @ 40/1 (E/W)
Mill Queen and Quick Wit look worthy fav's but I like Zodiac Princess. If you look at the weight turn around to Shivers (9kg) & Palace of Dreams (3kg) who are second fav's I think he could place.

Race 4 - Pretty Penny - 25/1 (E/W)
Carrying very light weight, could be there or there abouts. Gets Muzi up so hoping for a place as think Chimmi and Trip to Heaven hard to beat. At ratings should run very close.

Enjoy the day. Nice change to have top sorts running day after July Day.
