Let's get some comments going for South Africa's greatest horse race and arguably one thee best events in our country.

I will do a race by race summary during the week, but for now let's talk Gallops.... Some say they mean nothing and others swear by them.... I love to watch them - it just gets my HDJ juices going.

Top 5 Gallops for me in no particular order:
Aragosta 1
Do It Again 2
Linebacker 4
Kommetieding 13
Al Muthana 16

news.tabonline.co.za/Computaform/ComputaForm
Computaform for those wanting to have an early study.
www.formgrids.co.za is also great....
Sporting Post / Winning Form

Take your pick.

Have 2 picks for the big one, both juicy prices, hoping to see some boosted odds promos during week from bookies.

Nice South..... You can share those 2 and yes great sporting Saturday..... We can only hope no loadshedding!

I like DIA and Al Muthana at this stage .....
But healthy respect for most in the field.

Yes agree I think this is a wide open July. My early 2 I’ve been leaning towards are Kommetdieding and Waterberry Lane. See some 14/1 and 25/1 available on the pair. I think both shorter come race day.

Too true LW, I'm not playing this week until Saturday :)

Guys espeically interested interested in your thoughts on Race 6 on Saturday, the wife has a small share in Royal Victory so it's exciting times. Top class opposition so a huge step up for him but without making any bold statements in such cirucmstances, I do think the boy is quite possibly underestimated by current odds of 20/1. We have had a nibble and then also taken him to run top 4, rose tinted specs perhaps but he is a talent. Wherever he runs we will be super proud of Royal Vic and his yard, Personally I'd include him in the exotics if you were already planning on going wide.

damn so excited for you and connections to have a runner in a race of this caliber. I haven't got to that field yet for analysis but will post when i do.

Lads an early value spot - Race 5, you are either with the top 2 or against. I have to go for some value, TIME FO ORCHIDS @ 25/1 ew right now. Formline is recent but another facile winner has come out of the debut win for TFO. Got stablemate to beat and hot favourite and draw, but no harm done at the price.

All the best Mack .... Looks a wide open race, and your horse has course experience plus not distance doubts. Must have a real chance. Natie also is a master.

I will take Swingers and exactas including your horse and Imposing.

I hear Maharanee is a freak, but I love how Sweet Pepper finished last time .... She quickens well and is the danger.
The only other horse I may consider is your horse.... Time For Orchids.... Great debut win.. draw a worry but must be a runner for money..
Lots of money for the 3. Bevies Delight

Will keep overall thoughts to July for preview show, but looking for some early value midweek on below so posting a bit earlier -

Race 1:
Not as good a field in same race last year.
FEATHER BOA @ 13/2 –
Blew it last time out. Hot favourite on debut.
Fourie takes ride, is in top form at Greyville.
Yard has a great strike rate when raiding, full respect. Got favourites to beat.
Don't laugh but a small bet for 1st timer ACCACIAS BLOSSOM 28/1 –
Newish trainer, fine strike rate in first full season. Bling eye-catching booking for owner. Could be anything.

Race 2:
Tricky race. But BIG money for favourite.
Snaith runner PURE MAVERICK for me @ 13/1 ew.
Looks like needed gelding, easy win in soft conditions. Seems to have booked a late ticket on float up to KZN after that.
Early form was solid in feature races.
Fourie takes ride, again as per previous race, has a superb strike rate at Greyville.

Race 3:
ONE WAY TRAFFIC @ 13/2 ew
Pace was shocking last run, was ripping jocks arms out wanted to get on with things.
Ran on well at the end. This time Crown Towers same owner there to set the gallop.
Best ew of day.

Race 5:
TIME FO ORCHIDS @ 28/1 ew.
Very hard to oppose top 2 in betting, so looking for ew value.
TFO ran on well to win on debut, could be anything, wide draw to deal with but top jock in De Melo.
2 winners have already come out since and won very easily.

Race 6:
BRIGHT GREEN @ 5/1
Wow really impressed with debut win, weaved way through like an experienced horse not a 2yr old.
Draw a concern but think he’ll come from off pace regardless.
Best bet of day.
MISS COOL 14/1 – if back to best form can get one over the boys. Good draw, has plenty pace.
ROYAL VICTORY 28/1 – maybe has a bit to find on others but will be rooting for GFTG connections, swingers with Bright Green.

JULY:
To follow in show.

Race 8:
Will try a bomb price 40/1 OSCARS WINNER. Just the one runner in field with most improvement still to come vs others who are classy but have maybe hit peak on past feature race wins.
Favourite very hard to oppose though, 3/10 not for me.

Race 9:
VARS VICKY 14/1
Respect for trainer, strong record as I said when raiding KZN.
Has won on turffontein inside track before so done the sprint over bend. Plum draw 2.

Race 10:
HASTA MANANA 25/1. Been running in the top 3yr fields, this is more his class. No finish last time when travelling well turning for home, but is a double course/distance winner.
Bling takes ride which is a positive booking.

R11/12 – leave the 2 graveyard poly races to other punters, if I’m still trying to win at this point then we’ve had a shocker.

The unfortunate scratching from the Gr1 Hollywoodbets Durban July this morning at 07h13 of Brett Crawford’s WSB Guineas winner Zapatillas creates a dream opportunity for the Plattner rising star, Airways Law.

Airways Law was the first reserve runner and makes the cut with just an hour to spare. Reserves are only accepted up to 08h15 today.

Airways Law will be ridden by Gareth Wright and jumps from the 6 draw.

Betting has been adjusted.

Hollywoodbets Durban July

Race 1
#7 MISS DAISY has some nice for lines which include Maharanee and Sweet Pepper. She has 2 wins from 5 starts looks like the right one here with Striker up.
Main danger #1 BUTTERFLY BEAUTY.
Others: 8/9  Watch first timer #11

Race 2
#10 TAIKONAUT is looking for a hat-trick and should go close. Lerena stays with the mount after another commanding ride last start. Biggest danger #2 NOW I GOT YOU.
Others: 7/12/13

Race 3
#1 Chollima & #10 ONE WAY TRAFFIC.  Chollima 20/1 into 10/1 still  represents value. #6 SHANGO, #3 FLYING BULL  must be considered.
Outsider - #4 ZILLZAAL

Race 4
Pick 6 time.... In or out first leg....
Banker #8 BLACK THORN - Turning into a decent stayer. Run close up to Nebraas who should be favourite for the Gold Cup. He should take some beating.
Dangers if any: 4

Race 5
#9 MAHARANEE is touted as a freak of a horse and will make her presence felt. He is unbeaten in 4 starts and many will also banker him. #4 SWEET PEPPER has also not lost as yet and has found market support. She quickens well and will give #9 a fight at the finish.
Others: 14/13/7

Race 6
Open race .... Find the value.
Glen Kotzen has a good hand.
#1 IMPOSING will be running at them and gets Fourie up. #6 COUNTDOWN was heavily supported last start and can show more. (Stable seems to talk this one up on the interviews and he's 33/1) #7 GRINKOV won well well last start but does take on stronger. #9 ROYAL VICTORY turns it on when needed and #14 BRIGHT GREEN was electrifying when winning on debut. Tough race ...
Others:
10/11/12/13/4/2/5... Field

Race 7
Find your winner.... It's all over the media, listen to the interviews and panels. It's an open race. I'm shouting for #2 DO IT AGAIN, but have healthy respect for the rest.
1/3/4/5/7/8/10/12/13/14/16/19
IpuntSmart top rated horse: #5 Puetro Manzano

Race 8
At the weights #8 CAPTAIN'S RANSOM will take some beating. She will want to make amends for last year when only 6th. Pick 6 banker.
Others: 1/4/5/10

Race 9
A good sprint to close off the Pick 6.
#6 SOUND OF WARNING has some solid sprinting form and is weighted to do well. She does take on the boys but has shown guys before. #9 EDEN ROCK deserves another chance and can get into the action. #1 COIN SPINNER could still be better than rated while you cannot leave #12 WILLIAM ROBERTSON out.
Most of the field make some appeal....
Others: 2/4/8/13

Race 10
Value Bet alert.... #11 GENTLEMAN'S WAGER should have finished on top of Airways Law last time out when baulked almost to a standstill. There has been money but I still think 8/1 is worth a nibble. He has #7 WARRIOR (favourite) beaten at the weights  but Warrior must be respected after his comeback run. #6 XAVION must also be included.
OTHERS: 12

Race 11
Open race...
#6 FULL BLAST is versatile and can fight this out. #1 GRIMALDI, #2 CONQUER THE ENEMY and #5 WILLOW'S WISH also make appeal. Watch if reserve #13 ARUMUGAN gets a run.

Race 12
#3 LADY MACBETH tries the trip and could enjoy. (Good value for the get out stakes)
#5 MY CHERIE AMOUR and #2 OH SO SQUISHY should be involved in the finish along with #10 MEL'S PRINCESS.

All the best guys and gals.
LW

Pick 6: (Add in or take out )
8
4-9
1-2-3-4-5-6-7-11-13-14
1-2-3-4-5-8-10-12-14-16
8
1-2-4-6-9-12
= R1200
R120 = 10%

My Saturday ......

With LW on Taikonaut in Race 2 and then I have slight preference Sweet Pepper over Maharanee. Finding it haard to oppose Black Thorn and Captains Ransom.

Wider open races much more appealing to me ....

R6 Royal Victory, as posted earlier this week, he is underestimated, bookies are guessing here with any amount of improvement possible from arguably the whole field. 33/1 now for Royal Vic, thats way tto big imo and as the saying goes ... I can be wrong 33 times, only have to be right once :)

R7 Still can't settle on a July pick, South's Waterberry Lane for places all I have so far

R9 I like a bit of Bartholdi, reckon the yard will have him primed for this, draw a negative but double digit price appeals.

R11 Conquer the Enemy, surely needed last run which was a really good effort after a lengthy break

R12 Angel of Justice, 4kg claimer keeps the ride after a near miss last time which looks a good move as would have shouldered 61kg

Some nice stuff here from South and LW. Some good analysis has made me look at a few I didn't first time out. Mackem hope your boy does you proud, what a day to have a runner.

For what its worth I have brassed the 3yos in this years July. This years crop nowhere as good as last years imvho ( the inevitable egg on the face incoming but that my play for this race ).

I'm with LW on Do It Again, go watch this horses finish in this years Met, especially the final 400 when losing 4 lengths at the start and finishing 2 lengths behind KMDD.

Although shes drifting like a bargepole and racings biggest ego has brassed her I like the look of Sparkling Water. Will double float those 2 with as many as I can afford in the Quartet.

Play well lads

Great thoughts guys, awesome show and thanks for the thoughts.

Good luck Mackem, will be holding thumbs for you.

Race 1 - Lady Regent @ 33/1
Shown nothing to date but backed it the last 3 times. So not going to jump ship now. Gets De Melo up and well drawn.

Race 2 - USA Hope - 15/1
Liked it first time when wasnt best run but has track experience and will hopefully surprise

Race 3 - Chollima @ 8/1
Like LW, I like this one

Race 6 - Laguna Verde @ 16/1
Thought last run was impressive, has a bit to find and poor draw but think could be better.

Race 7 - Do it Again & Red Saxon

Race 9 - Chantyman @ 20/1
Backedd him last time when beaten a short head by Socrates. The old boy always seems to be there or there abouts.

Race 10 - Cat Daddy @ 20/1
Loves the course and loves Durban, always seems to run well at course

Enjoy the day and all the best

Well done to any who came out on top yesterday. Tricky day, no show from my waterberry lane and kommetdieding just out places.

Managed a much better races 1-5 which kept my up on the days racing but would have liked to have landed one more.

Good to see a full racecourse but still get a bit miffed when the racing itself takes a back seat to some of show stuff happening like the 10 min delay at the start for the July runners.

What a day! I landed up catching the quartet in the July, and a small percentage of the p6. Cherry on the cake was Mackem's lad (there's a name for a horse in the future) running a snorter. Betxchange were brave enough to lay 80/1 an hour before the race and I had a nice bet at 13/1 to finish 1st 4. Had him in all my plays so can only imagine what the p6 dividend would have been if he got up. So pleased for Chris and his missus after what racing has dragged them through they deserve this.

Some good pointers on here - well done to all
