No local racing on Monday, will have a preview for Tuesday at the Vaal later today. Hopefully the weather in the Cape will allow for catch up meetings to be staged in midweek and then on Sunday we have a terrific card for Gold Cup Day at Greyville.

All this week's racing tips are most welcome here

Great card Sunday. Early picks on the main race Champions Cup -

Staying with same pair from July - BARBARESCO 16/1 and ROYAL VICTORY 13/2. B moved up with intent in July but just found out by trip, the 400m drop will suit. Will also see a decent pace with Dave the King out front so B should settle nicely.

RV for Chris and co, I think also will prefer trip and will also prefer a decent pace rather than the home sprint it turned out to be in July.

Will post card picks later in week.

Thanks South, so far so good with Royal's prep for Sunday, he took the July race really well and given he hasn't had much racing in 2024 he is still fresh so given a true run race he is a player although plenty with live chances and his current price might be about right.

Agree 100% with your comments on Barberseco July run, turning into the home straight was arguably going as well as anything and stepping down in trip should compensate for some of that the extra weight to carry.

Not going to make it to Durban for the race so plenty of time to look at the rest of the card and will put something together for the bulk of the races and probably a couple of exotics.

We have small shares in a couple of baby girls who make their debut's in the first race at Scottsville on Wednesday, Pirates Treasure and Mzanzi Lace but both going to need the experience and Mzanzi much further, hoping they can show some encouragement but won't be having a bet on them just yet

Sunday card picks, hopefully can find some winners -

Race 1 - Pomodoros jet @ 17/2 ew. Back to best trip and jock goes well on him.

Race 2 - Dark Winter @ 7/1 ew. Fav looks hard to beat but DW impressive last time out with blinkers, de Melo will be trying hard all card.

Race 3 Bjorn Ironside 9/2, not a strong choice but looks to be a tough sort in the making and brought down for this day.

Race 4 battling to look past the top 2 in betting but for an outside place chance Visionofpeace @ 50/1, Magner a top raiding yard and she stayed the mile trip nicely last time out.

Race 5 Great Plains 13/2 or probably bigger on day. Terrible last run when never got into any rhythm, but does like the course and with a decent draw I think will be running at them hard late.

Race 6 it’s Lucky Lad or field for me. Will try. Small ew Royal Aussie 14/1, this wasn’t his main target as was scratched for gold challenge last month. Has always showed pace so maybe can surprise here.

Race 7 Raisehallelijah 20/1 ew. Feels big price for a horse that was favourite on July day but found traffic problems.

Race 8 Barbaresco 16/1 Royal Victory 13/2

Race 9 Gilded Butterfly 18/1 as per previous post.

Race 10 Baltic Secret 20/1 think can pop up in this sort of class.

Good racing.

Thanks guys for all the info and insights. Brilliant day of racing in store and a fitting end to the KZN season. Probably not a smart idea by I am playing to beat the favs. Hopefully a few wins or EW places...

Race 1
With Chris here on Imilenzeyokududuma @ 12.5/1

Race 2
Fav looks hard to beat but I will take my chances with Just Reckless @ 7.14/1

Race 3
Looks a three way fight but if there is an upset than maybe Cats Pajamas can prop up @ 8.33/1

Race 4
Quid Pro Quo looks special and I won't be shocked if she wins here and then goes overseas. Lock and Key is also progressive. I prefer the value on Fatal Flaw @ 14.29/1. Stable sound bullish and expects a top 2 or 3 finish.

Race 5
I liked how The Specialist ran on July Day and with some luck can turn things around here with the fav. Probably get bigger come race time but I took the 9/1.

Race 6
Surjay was so disappointing July Day, and on him to bounce back to his usual consistent self @ 12.5/1

Race 7
A race of stamina, give me the classy Nebraas @ 10/1

Race 8
RV ofcourse, on weight turnarounds wont win but his such a classy horse. That 6.25/1 is good odds and for some reason, he is always under the radar when it comes to pundits, etc.

Race 9
Field race for the Pick 6, but I like Special Charm to run into the placings. She ran a cracker in the Oaks and I don't see any reason why she can't pull off the upset especially @ 17/1

Race 10
Betting is accurate here and its a two horse race. However, most likely will be playing catch up on the day and taking two big odds and hoping for the best.
Black Egret @ 16/1, was on him on July Day and ran a cracker under a length behind Chocolate Soldier.
Hithemhardsunshine @ 17/1, mostly due to Rachel Venniker and her knack of closing KZN meetings.

Good luck gents and lets hope for some winners, and come on RV!

Turffontein today and I like an upset in the featured race of the afternoon in Race 8.

Main Defender is around 8/10 in the betting and should drift come race time. I don't understand the stables comments. Part owner Frankie Zackey mentioned that Muzi Yeni takes the ride over stable and MD jockey Calvin Habib because Calvin is off form.... Calvin rode a treble of winners for the stable last weekend....Anyway I think MD is a weak favourite and will be beat today.

The Africa House has progressed into a versatile runner and has run behind some very good sorts. A MR 102 horse running with no weight at 48kgs, I think the value lies with him in the race. Taking some 8.33/1 on the win and 9/10 to place top 3.

Thanks guys for thoughts. Great days racing today.

Race 1
Formagear @ 20/1 (Hollywood)
Last 2 runs have been a bit disappointing, but if bounces back to best form could pop up at a nice price.

Richard The First @ 35/1 (WSB)
This one has run against some of the top horses in JHB, including Africa House. If we use AH as the line horse, then he should finish close to Joker man, as he lost to AH by 3.5l giving him 3 kgs and Joker Man beat Africa House by 2.5L giving him half a Kg. So he should be close. A bit of a concern is the distance as first time over the trip, but on breeding should be okay, and he has run 2 decent runs over the 1400m at Turffontein and Greyville is 1 of the easier 1600m I think.

Race 4
Whistle the Tune @ 16/1 & Fatal Flaw @ 14/1
WTT – Fourie has chosen to ride this one, so maybe distance suited but sure he would dhave had the choice.
Fatal Flaw came close last time, and looks like possibly a a tail wind, so if goes to the front from a decent draw, maybe will be able to hold on till the end. If Fav overcomes draw race over.

Race 5 –
French Flame @ 25/1 & Kamensky @ 50/1
Both 2 I have followed, think the 2 favs will be tough but one first time over distance and other first time on course from wide draw. Both weighted to place.

Race 6
Surjay @ 25/2 & Gladatorian @ 16/1
Following Naidoo as well here with Surjay. Showed last year likes the course
Gladatorian always pops up for me and with a bit out of the ground, comes even more alive and think will be flying at the end.

Race 7
I make Future Pearl hard to beat but I will take him on with
Master Redoubte @ 15/1
Only been a marathon once before and won. Much further but think he may have the class
Master Fuego @ 20/1
I remember South picking him July day and I like his breeding to make the trip. But a lot of weight for a 3 year old to carry.

Race 9
Hold my Hand @ 25/2
Holds all the other filly’s on last run C & D and gets top jock up. Was drawn wide last time and worth a shot.

Race 10
Coin Spinner @ 33/1

Enjoy the day.
