Plenty of value to be found on teams and athletes this Olympics. Will study the events and post my fancies throughout the next two weeks.
Early thoughts on some outright betting, fading Team USA Basketball at 4/1 is good value. That team is filled with star studded individuals but are not a team.
France Men odds to win the Volleyball are way too long. For me they should be the favorites, so 7/1 is nice value. They recently won the Nations League and will have the home support. Even 15/10 for them to medal is a good price for any single bets or to throw in a multiple.

Looked like men vs boys yesterday - NZ might run them close, but Fiji will have too much.
Not sure the odds, think they’ve changed, but put your house on a Fiji gold.

Beaten into 3rd at US trials but that was his best race for a while and could be peaking just in time. Has just the 100m to focus on unlike the other contenders all mostly also doing 200m. Has a winning record over Lyles and proven on the big stage.

We have not seen Dygert since March so no idea what form she has. What I do know is she does fall a bit and the course today is old tar and a few cobbles in Paris with rain expected.
Ladies
Match bet
van Dijk/Dygert @ 22/10
Mens
I think Tarling is well priced but too short for me.
Top 10
Plapp @ 15/10 Main bet of day
Match bet double
Vauquelin/Vacek - Sheffield/Bissegger @ 24/10

Greece vs Canada (Sat 21:00) & USA vs Serbia (Sun 17:15)
Books are disrespecting Serbia here and they should cover their +13.5 line. I am taking an alt line for their spread and adding Canada to beat Greece tonight.

Think the Dutch ladies are pretty much a shoe in for the gold. On the men's side there are probably four possibles. I'm going to go with the Aussies
Mens/Womens Hockey
Australia + Netherlands @ 7/1
One match for today
Mens GB v SA
GB are goal scoring machines and SA could add to the tally. SA went down 3-5 to Netherlands who are one of the favorites. This line looks light to me

Marco Arop to win Gold @ 9/1
Took Marco Arop to win gold at 9/1 at Hollywoodbets. Final is on 10th August, but taking the value now. He has won 3/4 800m races this year and too much is being made off his recent defeat in Monaco. If he can dictate the pace upfront he should win the race and make amends from his only loss this year.

China +6.5 at 9/10
China over 13.5 points at 7/10
China win at 23/10
China +6 onto NZ -27.5 at 5/2
I'm not a sevens fan, but watched all the 2nd round games of the women's sevens last night and China really impressed me. I think they will beat Canada. Also think NZ should cover the -27.5 against a terrible Fiji side.

I saw Tatjana Smith trade at 13/10 ahead of her semi last night and thought I would wait to get similar odds for the final tonight. Browsing through the bookies this morning and saw she is now 45/100 to win gold tonight. Missed opportunity unfortunately...
The other South African in a final tonight is Pieter Coetze in the 100m Backstroke. The 20 year old is improving with every race and set a new SA and African record in his semifinal. At 31/1 and 4/1 I don't think its that impossible for him to bring home a medal.
A few beers on Coetze to win a medal tonight at 4/1 (Sunbet)
Also followed Brent and Hendrik with the cycling and took a few beers of Alan Hatherly to medal at 4/1 this afternoon.

Ireland gave Australia a scare going down 14:19 earlier today, but Australia will have learnt from that and certainly won't carry complacency into this match.

Canada vs Australia & USA vs South Sudan
Canada should beat Australia but it will be a close game so taking the Canadian ML into Wednesday evening game. As great as USA are, the handicap is too big against South Sudan. The African team are an emerging nation and have young players who will run throughout the 40 mins, and they are not afraid to score. I will gladly take the +29.5 handicap at 9/10, but wanted a little extra points on the spread so took an alternative line.
Canada Win into South Sudan +36.5 @ evens
Also, for anyone looking to take some outright multis... Canada at 9/10 to medal is an ideal leg to add to all multis. I personally have taken Canada (Basketball) to medal and also Canadian 800m star, Marco Arop to medal in a double @ 29/10.

New Zealand is the reigning gold medal winner and captured a silver medal in 2016.
Australia won the Olympic gold in 2016 and is the current World Rugby Women's Sevens Series champion.
The odds for New Zealand to win gold are around 1.60.
The odds for Australia to win it are 2.62.
I think this should be closer to evens, so I took Australia to win gold @2.62.

Thanks Quill and I thought the same, odds don't make sense. I initially thought Aussies are that big because they were likely going to meet France in semis but after Canada knocked out the French, I don't understand why Aussies odds didn't drop. Following u on that bet.
Fiji style of play or lack thereof, makes me believe SA can stay within the handicap.

Mensik v Paul
I know Paul won the French Junior title but he has never kicked-on on clay. This is the youngsters best surface and I was impressed with his 3 and 2 win over Popyrin a week or so ago
Over 11.5 games Mensik @ 9/10
Struff v Moutet
Not Struff's top surface and Moutet always enjoys massive french support and generally thrives on it Had a good run at the French and gave Sinner a match for almost two sets.
Over 11.5 games Moutet @ 17/20
A few beers
Mensik + Moutet @ 8/1

Based on that you would think he would prefer the 200m and although his start and turns are a concern (start less so in this race) he look worth a punt at 12/1 a top 3 (Betx and Boyles)

Athletics , mens 800m :
Arop @ 9/1 . In the 800 and 1500m the favorite rarely wins in these big events.

The highlighted comment could not be more true. We seem to have all become swimming experts the last few days - a few days i was looking for a bet and within 2 minutes found myself in the world of US state swim-meet championship videos on Youtube convincing myself i'd found the 100m mens freestyle lurker. Then went to place a bet and wondered why market was suspended, turned out i had my TV on delay and the guy ended up finishing 7th!
Thankfully the athletics is coming up and this is where I have had good success in past olympics so let the main course begin...

Bit of value on reigning 10000 Olympic champ Selemon Barega @ 13/2 (Betway).
He's only 24, in his prime, and although beaten into 3rd in Ethiopian trials, he didn't push to the end with the other pair knowing he was safely in top 3.

Heats on Friday night, Semis over the weekend with the final on Monday evening.
Keely Hodgkinson should win the Gold, she is on another level atm. Priced at 1/4 for the Gold, is way too short, but another way to get better odds on her (riskier approach) is to take her to win the BBC SPOTY award at the end of the year. At Sunbet she is priced favourite at 2.25/1 for that award, and a Gold here should push her price down to around 11/10. 95% deaf in a ear, survived a tumor, overcame depression, a legend in the making in 800m, multi time medalist and soon to be Olympic Champion, she should be the fans fav for that award if she wins Gold as expected on Monday evening.
I was looking at the odds for this race and I like the value on our SA runner Prudence Sekgodisa to medal. Based on the betting, most of the runners are battling for bronze but she is in good form (won 800m in Marrakesh (new PB) and Oslo), and with some luck can claim a medal.

Only a few countries have 4 rider teams and even the early break has a chance if it gets a double digit lead - expect to see Benoot doing plenty of work at the front
I have no clue what will happen but I am going to swerve the favourites and throw some darts at the bigger prices
0.75 units on:
Stuyven at 31/1 - in great form at TDF, problem is he has 2 of the big favs in his team so may have to work earlier than he would like. I can also see him being used in the tactical battle though and this is where his chance may come.
Hirschi at 50/1 - a late and convenient replacement for a man who had no chance. He looked good in the Czech tour against lesser riders and for me has never reached the heights of a few years back when he was able to match Alaphillipe in his peak. he may be able to take advantage of the chaos.
Matthews at 62/1 - he looked strong at times in the TDF and I am hoping he was focusing on this race. If he can get to the finish in a small group it is probably only Van Aert that is obviously quicker and he is also capable of a late break
0.5 unit on:
Aranburu at 99/1 - he looked great in the TDF and I was impressed with his timing. If he has held form he could be a factor and is a capable sprinter as well
Healy at 99/1 - you just know he is going to try. Needs to win alone and if he can stay in touch and then attack late he may be able to benefit from a disorganized chase
Pollitt at 82/1 - a late call, showed serious strength and climbing ability in the TDF and I can picture the favs looking at each other as he rides into the distance
All bets with my boys Boyles and you can open an account here
