Rugby Championship Week 2, Currie Cup Week 7 + NPC Week 2, 12-18 August

It was great to have Rugby Champs back although I found myself behind when the dust had settled.

Currie Cup was great to me though with only the Bulls minus from early in the week missing but fortunately the Bulls over 8.5 tries was my biggest bet of the weekend and it scraped in.

I went with Sharks -5.5 as my main newsletter play and being the Sharks I did not feel safe until that final whistle went.

Overall a very good weekend.

Oracle had a great night on THE HANDICAP and I doubt there will be any keeping him off this weeks show.

Rugby Championship - bookies are out but have done my own caps and Betxchange are in brackets

New Zealand -15.5 (-12.5) v Argentina
Australia +13.5 (+14.5) v South Africa

My initial instinct was New Zealand -12.5 but then I thought about the venue Eden Park and also the fact that when Argentina beat New Zealand 25-18 in 2022 the All Blacks hammered them 53-3 the next week in Hamilton.
I think this handicap will move out and am going to take some -12.5 with a view of trading out later in the week if not happy with it. I am confident the cap won't start lower than -12.5 at Eden Park

Currie Cup handicaps to follow shortly

Looks like the bookies have corrected themselves here and I missed it (Damn you day job :( ), I had put the number at 11 so 6 would have been a must take. Manawatu very messy.

At the minute I like the counties +11. However there is an injury question around Riley Hohepa. I would think that they will improve after a tough test against Taranaki

I almost feel obliged to take any + on Taranaki and I think 7 is enough for me. They are very strong all over the pitch.

Counties have rotated with Hohepa out. I think the cap might move out some more so no need to rush into t abet on counties if I bet on them at all. I have taken a bet on the over 56 points, I don't track NPC like other leagues but I think counties are usually a side that will beat their team total as an underdog.

I took BOP -9.5 @1.813 2u earlier in asian, my proyection was 34-21 so value there. No Hohepa big blow (Nanai-Seturo as well), BOP without Trask at 10 but at least Cashmore is on the bench.

BOP o33.5 looks nice as well.

In the Currie Cup I've taken Sharks +7.5 vs Cheetahs.

Imo this should be close to choice. States haven't impressed me all that much (given they should be full strenght) whilst Sharks are arguebly the form team of the past three rounds since welcoming their yojngsters to the fold.

Boks have made loads of changes, still a good team but I think cap will move to 9 or 10 so going to take some +13.5 Aus

Correction taken the 5/6 +14.5 at Boyles

Cheers for the Heads Up on the Currie Cup Couch

Popped onto WSB and here is how their caps (in brackets) compare to mine

Pumas +9.5 (+19.5) v Bulls
Lions -7.5 (-11.5) v WP
Cheetahs -5.5 (-6.5) v Sharks
Griffons +17.5 (+13.5) v Griquas

A couple of 4 point differences and a huge 10 points on Pumas game

Got to get my head around this

I see on Oz weather bureau that 10-35mm rain is expected in Perth on Saturday plus a wet Friday. Unfortunately they do not say what time of day. Leaning towards Oz plus here after being strong in the Bok camp. Opinion changed due to weakened side and weather.

I like the lads at Trypod. Usually have a YouTube or Instagram page but they seem to no longer upload on YouTube.

They have a discord I believe too,

Wicky Tips are good too on Discord for the Aussie sports and talk a lot of NRL. Nailed some huge first / last try scorer bets there last weekend too.

As forecast money has come for the AB's and cap now out to -14.5 from -12.5, I think there may still be another point to come

Australia in from +14.5 into +9.5 or +12.5 depending on the bookie - the +12.5 at Hollywood still at 9/10 - I think this starts in high single figures

In the Currie Cup Pumas now +15.5 from +19.5 and Griffons +15.5 from +13.5

Thought the Aus plus would drop quicker but I see Boyles still over +13 @ 10/11 in UK. Taken some of that but will be just looking for best middle with a Boks minus in single figures closer to game.

Jeez expected the Aus cap to come in quicker and still no real cash-out option available to bank some profit... I'm WAY over invested in this one at this stage and nothing worse than losing a packet on the bloody Aussies!

Yeah, when certain teams are involved in games you just know there can be points. Counties seem of have a trend of going way behind and then getting points. Like scoring 30 and still losing the cap is shocking.

The caps for the two other games on Sunday are out

BOP -2 v North Harbour
Counties +14 v Waikato

I know Counties have 3 games in a week but it is early season so I don't think there will be a huge fatigue factor , I lean with them at the moment and weather depending a possible look at overs again. Presuming the points say under 60.

Wellington -7.5 @1.84 2u

Strong team with Love at 15, and stronger bench than Naki.

If weather allows that 49.5 is low in my opinion (leaning on Wellington o29.5 rather than the total)

Follow you guys on the o59.5 in Nelspruit with confidence. Line in Joburg at 59.5 in pinnacle as well, I´m licking my lips when limits rise to fire overs there, even a little worse line looks valuable for me.

In NPC I had Northland -6.5 and Wellington -7.5 and I add o54.5 in hawkes bay-southland @1.89 for 2u as well (weather looks ok for kickoff and may rain a little bit at the end of the match). With dry conditions most of the match this line seems 4-5 points below I expected it. Hawkes Bay showed last week what they´re capable of when they can run the field, they can even reach this line alone if they have their day.

Also added Counties +13.5 and +12.5 for 1u each. They field a nice compo, Hohepa back on the bench. No Waikato lineup yet but they looked rusty last week against BOP so value for me on the home side. Also waiting for the weather to settle because radar shows there will rain heavily in Pukekohe during the whole match and line at 55.5 looks high in that conditions.

Looks like you have some nice value on Northland and Wellington.

What Radar do you use for rainfall? I cant find anything for NZ, I don't really trust the usual weather forecast as they are too general.

Perenara first try scorer @ 15/1.

Both games look to be wet enough tomorrow with Auckland looking very windy. Was eyeing up the unders in the totals but have decided against it .

Agree guys that the ABs will look to make amends for last week, with an efficient and disciplined performance .
Like NZ -14 but prefer Argentina under 17 points @ 1.91

Playing small on Papalii anytime scorer @ 4.33

In Perth, I feel the Aussies could hang with SA for the first half but that bench is something else for the Boks. Have no lean on the -12 handicap IMO.
I will play small again though on Elrigh Louw anytime @ 4.75 with some bookies.

Happy punting :)
