Villarreal will continue their fight against the odds on Wednesday in the Champions league Quarter Finals as they face Bayern Munich at the Estadio de la Ceramica.
Villarreal
Despite being the outsiders Villarreal produced an outstanding display against Juventus in the Round of 16 with a whooping 4-1 aggregate win. The Submarines are now facing a more daunting Bayern Munich side who at the moment are arguably one of the strongest sides remaining in the competition. To their disadvantage, Villarreal have failed to carry their winning momentum into La Liga, losing 1-0 to Cadiz and 2-0 to Levante. Even though they have seen a poor run of form in the league, they are still currently nine games unbeaten at home, however, I think it might come to end facing an in-form Bayern Munich outfit.
Bayern Munich
Failing to get past RB Salzburg in their first leg of the Round 16 shifted Bayern into highest gear as they ended up thrashing Salzburg in a true Bayern style with a 7-1 victory in their second-leg. Robert Lewandowski took just 23 minutes to secure himself another hattrick on the night and the rest of the team followed suit - netting another 4 past Philipp Kohn. Unsurprisingly, Julian Nagelsmann`s side have now gone 8 games unbeaten across all competitions and a win in Spain is looking the most likely outcome for the German giants.
Verdict
Villarreal have put on some impressive performances this season, thrashing Juventus in the UCL Round of 16 and giving Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid just 1 point in their recent respective league fixtures. However, a downturn in form gives little encouragement going into a clash against a European powerhouse Bayern Munich. It is hard to see Villarreal pulling off a favorable result and it looks like the Bavarians are in for another successful night.
