NRL ROUND 15
The Origins hangover is now well and truly behind us in the NRL as we look to what Round 15 will bring.
BRONCOS vs RABBITOHS – Thu17 Jun @ 11:50, Brisbane
It hasn’t exactly been a vintage season for Souths – taking beatings from the Storm and Panthers – but they still find themselves floating along in fourth spot on the table. We have now moved into the second half of the comp and Wayne Bennett will look to his chargers to start building towards knockout footie and becoming more ruthless both on attack and defense as we approach the business end of the year.
For the Broncos it’s been another dismal season where they find themselves merely trying to avoid the wooden spoon, not something this proud franchise will be at all happy with. Despite surprising the Roosters in Round 11, the Brisbane side then took 50 from the struggling Dragons shortly after. This clearly is a team who doesn’t have its house in order. At present and only a fool will part ways with their cash on these mercurial blokes who mostly seem to rather want to be at the beach than stop a charging opponent from getting yet another score against the limping horses.
COWBOYS vs SHARKS – Fri 18 Jun @ 10:00, Townsville
Fresh off toppling the log leaders the Sharks will travel to Townsville with a swagger in their step and a tune in their hearts. The Cowboys will hope to turn the cheerful whistle of their opponents into a wheeze by smashing their visitors into submission at Queensland Country Bank. The North Queenslanders last experienced a Townsville trip-up in March so there will be plenty of confidence in the home ranks despite a nasty outing last week.
It’s been a struggle for the Sharks when playing away this season but they have been a different side with Shaun “Magic” Johnson back in their ranks along with a few others. I’m backing the Sharkies again this week to pull a rabbit out of the hat and get the “W” to move into the top 8.
PANTHERS vs ROOSTERS – Fri 18 Jun @ 11:55, Gold Coast
The mighty Panthers were humbled the past few weeks, but they were caught out by Origin issues. The Rooster snuck home last week after almost letting a 30-4 lead slip. This time around they gear themselves to face a Panthers team with something to prove. The men in black have lost their top spot but I’m expecting to see the top dogs of 2021 return to their ruthless selves this week and put the Chooks over the coals for a tastier version of KFC come Friday eve in Penrith.
