WEST INDIES vs SOUTH AFRICA 2nd TEST, St Lucia - 18 June @ 16:00

After a dominant display by South Africa in the opener we move to the second test to be held at the same venue.

Setting the Scene

The Windies looked to have no answer to the fire brought by the South African quicks in the first test. I expected a more docile track but St Lucia offered more than enough bite to make matters tough for the home side. The South Africans will do well to remember that it was only really a superb batting display from De Kock that once again saved the day and put them in a strong position in the game. The top order still haven’t shown their ability to churn out 300+ scores as the rule rather than a rarity.

How I see it Playing Out

The Windies bowlers put in a solid shift with Roach always a threat, Holder was Mr Consistent and the young Seales took to test cricket like a duck to water (or should it be a seal?). But its tough getting over the batting effort of the home side - there seemed to be little will and fight shown from anyone in their batting order. The visiting batsmen will need to turn some starts into scores as they can’t continue to rely on the lower order to get the job done.

Betolimp Best Bets

Top South Africa 1st Inns Batsman – Temba Bavuma @ 7.50

Verreynne will be kicking his backside that he didn’t cash in when he had the chance. Talk was that Bavuma only had a slight hamstring niggle so I expect the little fighter to be back up and running and ready to take his place for this test. Coming in at five he should have the perfect opportunity to get back into things with a good total.

Top Windies 1st Inns Batsman – RRS Cornwall @ 21.00

It might not be a foregone conclusion that Rahkeem gets his slot for this game. But given how the batting line-up folded like a house of cards one might as well have a nibble on someone unlikely in this market (Holder delivered beautifully for us last time out).

Man of the Match – Anrich Nortje @ 12.00

Nortje was the standout bowler in the first match and were it not for De Kock’s effort with the willow probably had a good chance of delivering in this market last time out. I am happy backing the SA quick to continue on his merry course of fire and destruction in this second test.
