The PGA Tour is traveling to Florida for the first of four tournaments that will be hosted in the area over the upcoming weeks. Most fans know this tournament as the Honda Classic, however, the name has changed to the Cognizant Classic and will be played at PGA National for the 18th consecutive time.
The Course
PGA National Championship Course is well-known to all and has challenged golfers for the better part of 2 decades. Located north of Miami, the par-70 course plays 7,125 yards. Water is plentiful, and with well-placed bunkers guarding fairways and greens, an accurate game is essential.
Market Leaders
World number 2, Rory McIlroy, is the heavy favourite to win at 17/2 going into this week’s tournament. The bookies have Cameron Young at 25/1 followed by Eric Cole at 28/1. Many top players on the tour have chosen to sit out this week and rest up with a few big tournaments coming up soon.

Selections:
Chris Kirk at 55/1
Kirk will be looking to mount a strong defence of his title having won in a playoff against fellow American, Eric Cole. Kirk had a dream start to his 2024 season, winning at the Sentry for his 6th PGA tour title. He then had three mediocre performances with one top 20, followed by a disappointing missed cut at last week's Genesis Open. His price has drifted from an opening call of 35/1 no doubt due to that missed cut but I am betting on his positive memories to get him in the mix.
Main bet: Each way at 55/1.
Rory McIlroy at 17/20
With a field that is missing the majority of the top golfers on tour, McIlroy is a cut above the rest of the field. McIlroy finished 24th at the Genesis where he was not at his best and he has not played at the Honda Classic since 2018.
Main bet: Win only at 17/2
Sepp Straka at 40/1
Straka was the Honda Classic winner in 2022 and went on to put up a strong defence last year, finishing 5th. Straka has not had the greatest start to the season, missing two out of four cuts. He will be looking to use his momentum from his last two performances at The PGA National to bounce back this week and given the weak field I am backing him to do just that.
Main bet: Each way at 40/1.
