BettingDiaryThe Sharks v Bulls Currie Cup match has unfortunately been cancelled, but there are still two games for punters to sink their teeth and we take a look at each of them from a betting angle.

LIONS v GRIQUAS

This game kicks off at 14h30 on Wednesday afternoon and the Lions will be desperate for a win as they currently sit 6th on the log, 3 points behind the Griquas who sit in 3rd, but the Griquas have played a game more.

The Lions have not been in action since the 23rd of June when they beat Western Province 38-32 at home, although they did play against the British & Irish Lions in their opening tour match where they took a 56-14 point beating. Their opening Currie Cup encounter was a 39-10 loss away to the Pumas.

Griquas lost their opening game at home to the Sharks, but they then came out and hammered the Cheetahs 31-10 in Kimberley. Since then they have suffered a narrow loss to the Pumas away and caused an upset when they beat Western Province 30-28 in Cape Town in their last start

Lions 7/20

Draw 28/1

Griquas 26/10

Handicap: Lions (-7.5) at 9/10, Griquas (+7.5) at 9/10

Suggested Bet: Handicap, Lions (-7.5) at 9/10

Griquas are punching above their weight this season, but the Lions should have too much quality across the park and can win this game by double figure margin.

CHEETAHS v WESTERN PROVINCE

This game is scheduled to kick off at 16h45 on Wednesday evening and the Cheetahs will be desperate for a victory as they currently sit bottom of the table. Western Province are 2nd on the log, 1 point behind the Pumas, but with a game in hand.

The Cheetahs campaign got off to a poor start when they lost 31-10 away to Griquas and their match against the Bulls was then cancelled. Their last game was at home to the Pumas where they edged a low scoring encounter 17-16.

Western Province put up a decent fight in their tour match against the British & Irish Lions on the weekend, although eventually the tourists broke through to win 49-3. Looking at their Currie Cup form they opened with a comfortable away win over a depleted Bulls outfit before going down by 6 points away at the Lions. Province then overcame the Sharks 32-31 in Cape Town before losing another high scoring encounter by 2 points to the Griquas also at home.

Cheetahs 19/10

Draw 25/1

Western Province 5/10

Handicap, Cheetahs (+5.5) at 9/10, Western Province (-5.5) at 9/10

Suggested Bet: Handicap, Western Province (-5.5) at 9/10

There were promising signs for Western Province against the Lions and although this does sound strange given the eventual margin of defeat. They play against a Cheetahs side who have been stripped of many of their star players and looks ripe for the taking.
