The DSTV Premiership gets going this weekend and we select three of the matches to have a bet on.
Let’s start with a look at the Outright Betting where Mamelodi Sundowns are trading as the early favourites at 11/10 to defend their title. Kaizer Chiefs are 11/2 with fellow Soweto Giants, Orlando Pirates priced at 6/1. Cape Town City are 8/1 and you can get 14/1 and better the balance.

FRIDAY
CAPE TOWN CITY v MAMELODI SUNDOWNS
The opening fixture of the new season sees last season’s runner-up, Cape Town City at home to the title winners, Mamelodi Sundowns.
Sundowns finished 16 points clear of Cape Town City and although they only lost 2 games more than Sundowns, it was the high percentage of draws that saw Cape Town City with too much ground to make up. Cape Town City lost their final match of last season 1-0 away to Stellenbosch and that broke a run of 13 matches without defeat. Sundowns also lost to Stellenbosch towards the end of last season and they did have some wobbles, but by then the title was already wrapped up.
Incredibly these sides played out a 180 minutes without a goal last season as both fixtures finished 0-0. In the previous season Sundowns did the double over Cape Town City and Cape Town City have now gone 4 matches against Sundowns in the League without scoring a goal.

Cape Town City 27/10
Draw 22/10
Mamelodi Sundowns 12/10
Suggested Bet: Over 2.5 goals at 27/20
I am certainly going against last season’s stats on this one, but Cape Town City games generally have goals in them at home and I am actually expecting quite an entertaining start to the season.
SATURDAY
ORLANDO PIRATES v SWALLOWS
The first Soweto Derby of the season should be an exciting one and pits Pirates who finished 6th last season against Swallows who narrowly avoided relegation in 15th.
Swallows could only win 4 games all season and they drew 14 of their 30 matches, the stats shared by Pirates despite the fact that Pirates finished 18 points above Swallows on the log. Pirates were inconsistent towards the end of last season and they will be looking for a strong start to put themselves in the hunt for a title challenge.
Pirates edged this fixture 1-0 last season and Swallows and Pirates played to a 1-1 draw when Swallows hosted. In fact in the last two seasons 3 of the 4 matches have finished 1-1 and not one of the games has reached the 3 goal mark.

Orlando Pirates 5/6
Draw 26/10
Swallows 7/2
Suggested Bet: Orlando Pirates win at 5/6
I like some of the changes that Pirates have made to their squad and I am expecting them to have a strong season starting off a 3 pointer against Swallows.
SUNDAY
SUPERSPORT UNITED v CHIPPA UNITED
SuperSport United finished last season in 8th place with 10 wins, 10 draws and 10 losses in their 30 matches. They were quite poor towards the end of the season and their final day victory over Orlando Pirates broke a run of 4 matches without a win and saw them finish in the Top 8. Chippa United had a hard season finishing 14th on the log with just 5 wins in their 30 matches.
This fixture finished 1-1 last season and the reverse fixture at Chippa United was goalless. These sides have drawn their last 4 head-to-head matches in the League.

SuperSport United 11/10
Draw 85/40
Chippa United 3/1
Suggested Bet: SuperSport United win at 11/10
I am expecting SuperSport to get off to a strong start against a Chippa United team I don’t think is going to struggle this season. Recent stats suggest this will be a draw, but I am going to go for the home team to pick up the win.
