BettingDiaryEngland and the Proteas will meet in the deciding ODI in Leeds on Sunday and we take a look at the match from a betting angle.

The Proteas got their Tour off to a perfect start with a convincing 62 run victory at Chester-le-Street in the 1st ODI. On Friday England bounced back strongly in a rain shortened match getting bowled out for 201 just short of their 29 overs, a game they had been reduced to.

The majority of the English top order failed, but there was good and ultimately valuable contributions from Livingstone and Curran down towards the bottom of the order and these ensured England set a target that was at least defendable and defendable it proved to be with no fewer than 3 of the top 4 South African batsmen getting ducks and the Proteas were eventually bowled out for 83 in just over 20 overs. Only Heinrich Klaasen offered resistance with 33 runs at a strike rate of 82.

From a bowling perspective Dwaine Pretorius was the top South African bowler with 4 for 36 in his 6 overs. While of all of the England bowlers performed well, Reece Topley must take credit for starting the collapse. Punters who backed Adil Rashid would have collected on his 3 wickets for 29 runs in 6 overs.

The Headingly pitch in Leeds is one that often favours the fast bowlers and of the 43 ODI’s played, 26 have been won by the team batting second. There are some scattered showers predicted, but hopefully the weather will play ball.

England 11/20

South Africa 15/10

SELECTIONS:

Top Away Batsman, Aiden Markram at 5/1

Markram was disappointingly run out without scoring in the 2nd ODI and we were on him to be the top bat. I was impressed with him in the 1st ODI and hopefully this time he can spend a bit longer at the crease and deliver the bet for us.

Top Away Bowler Shamsi at 33/10

Shamsi is usually good for a couple of wickets and I just have this feeling he is due for a big haul.
